Chapter 27

(Crows)

Ranger watched curiously and Quackity, woke alone in the nest. The rest of Phil's flock had risen earlier. Technoblade had left with Philza, and Wilbur and Tommy much later. Each deciding to let the new fledgling sleep. Ranger and the rest of the crows were very please with Quackity's progress with flying. His wings were healthy and the feathers were nice and neat and glossy and they were able to hold his weight without strain now. They all agreed he would be flying on his own soon. Now it was just getting Quackity to accept himself as an avain and hopefully fully integrated into the flock. They were all so excited. Because even Lady Death herself was watching now. The crows had learned a long time ago that Phil and his fledglings were not able to see her, it was the reason why she had her hat there to represent her presence.

So, while Quackity thought he was waking up alone really their Lady; their Mumza was sitting in the nest, simply watching, her mates newest fledgling. "He's very jumpy, isn't he." She stated, watching with a playful smile on her face as he nudged at her hat, lifting it enough to look under it. "There's no crow under there nestling. Its just me, see." She giggled, lifting her hat off the ground slightly before letting it drop.

Quackity was quick to move away from the hat, eyeing it like the object was going to bite him.

"Hmm, he's certainly different." She said thoughtfully, settling back and just watching.

Ranger nodded their head as they watch Quackity rub at his face harshly as if to scrub the rest of sleep from himself. He looked upset, and Ranger could understand that. Fledgling usually got restless and cranky when their caretaker is gone. Though they all knew Quackity would deny this. He was progressing, but not accepting. Ranger was starting to think maybe one of Philza flock should have stayed with him. Mumza didn't count as Quackity was not aware of her; he didn't understand the meaning of her hat being there. But still maybe if Ranger talked to him, he would calm knowing that he wasn't entirely alone in the nest.

'I am here!' They chirped happily, with a happy tilt of their head.

"And what are you so giddy about?" Quackity demanded.

"Oh, cranky little nestling isn't he." Mamza said, with a tilt of her own head.

"You owner is a bastard, you know that!" He snapped.

'Excuse you!'

'Owner! We are not pets!'

'I am very offended!'

'I demand an apology!'

'We are sentient thank you very much!'

Ranger hissed at Quackity disgruntled and join the few crows that were swooping low and screeching their objection at Quackity. 'That was mean! We are not pets!' They screeched, ruffling their feathers making sure Quackity got the message. A few crow knocking his beanie off his head a bit.

"Okay, Okay. I got it. Phil doesn't own you. Doesn't mean he isn't a bastard." Quackity huffed, fixing his beanie back.

Ranger let's their feathers lay back down, and give Quackity a questioning head tilt. What had Phil done wrong?

"The guy messes with my head and then leaves! What kind of enemy up and leaves their prisoner alone. Its irresponsible you know." He hisses.

Oh, they were right, Quackity avain side wished for flock. He just didn't know how to accept that want. Ranger and a few other crows all began chirping again. Trying to be comforting. Though Ranger just shook their head a little sadly. Quackity was just so stubborn. 'You need to follow your instincts.' They chirped out.
