Emma pov:
Being home after a few days at my parents was sad but also nice. It felt a bit lonely but also nice to finally be alone. We had very cozy and nice Christmas. I was filled with love, but mostly with food. I decided it was for the best to unpack my bag directly because I knew I was gonna be to lazy to do it later.
Gaby had been an angel and called the restaurant we were at last year to see if we could abandon it this year too. Luckily it was free during new years as well. We always had some people we knew was gonna join us, but we still wanted to be some more. I decided to send a text in "the white walkers" group chat. It was a group chat with only people that was working at the paddock for Mercedes. They were the only people that was allowed to be in the group. We were maybe 30-40 people in it so it was quite a big group. We always texted during the races to see if anyone was up for dinner or to hang out. So if you were bored you could easily just send a massage, and there was always someone that was wanting to hang out.
Me: Nancy's at 7 pm on new years eve. Come celebrate with me! Small bites will be offered, but Id recommended you eating a bit before you arrive, unless you wanna spend the evening drunk in the bathroom throwing up before noon ;)
Me: Oh, most importantly! Its an open bar ;)
I knew that the replies was gonna come pouring down, so I texted Gaby as fast as I could telling her I invited the white walkers. I got a text back 2 seconds later telling me she'd invited the red army, as Red bull called their group chat.
Even though we're supposed to hate each other, most of the team members actually liked to hang out with each other. People from both teams had been celebrating new years together before, and during seasons some even partied together and spent time with each other. Just like me and Gabby did. It was good fun. During race weekends and on track, everyone hated everyone thats not on their team, but as soon as we left track we were all a big family.
Lewis: Count me in ;)
Bono: Have I ever said no to an open bar?!?! ;)
George: Me and Charlotte are coming :)
Liam: Im in :)
Julia: Im there!
The replies kept pouring in as I expected it to do. Some couldn't come and that was okey. I was actually excited. Some of the white walkers brought their partners, like George did, and that was always fun. Especially since most of the workers in the teams were men and the majority was straight. Them bringing their wives and girlfriends meant it was more girls for me and Gaby to hang out with and also fun to have a drink with if they ever came to a race.
I did enjoy the girls that was on both my and Gabys team. We tried to hang out as much as we could during the season and we always had fun. We girls always had to have each others back. The sport being man dominated, could sometimes mean it being a sexist environment and being questioned about your ability as a women. So we girls always had to have each others back. It didn't mater what team you're on, we stood up for each other. Ir was a very beautiful thing having that support from people you always didn't know that very well.
