PROLOGUE
The Setting Sun Above It All

Shadows hid what wished to be seen. They buried secrets deeper and darker than what any sane person could handle. They'd squirm and run away screaming. Then there were secrets kept to protect those the person cared for.

Many assumed that Evelyn Doyle went to Midtown High, she did not. In reality, she went to a normal high school in Brooklyn. Evelyn's mother used to drop her off, but of course a promotion at work put a dent in that plan. She also tried driving her mother's car, but she got hit by a deer. Now, she took the bus.

Over the years, she had grown close with Peter Parker. Her mom and his Aunt May both worked at the same hospital. Eve was grateful that her mom knew how to patch up a wound, mainly because she was a reckless and impulsive soul. With that, she got a lot of scars and bruises. Over time, Lisa, her mom, learned not to question it. Lisa knew her daughter was practically a mini version of her father, which concerned her dearly.

The door swung open, and Eve made her way to the kitchen, where her mother sat at the table, looking over piles of documents. The papers surrounded Lisa, hiding her from Eve.

"Hey, kid. How was school?" She asked.

"Got into another fight, and school was hell, as per usual. Life as a doctor?" Eve returned the question.

"Work. Lots and lots of work. And I'm starting to question even becoming one." Lisa told her. "I got Chinese food, I got pizza, and I got cheeseburgers. Mix and match. I have to go back to work now..." She started to apologise, but Eve understood.

"If Peter comes over, make sure he helps you with your homework!" Lisa advised, walking out the door.

Eve sat down at the table where her mother once sat, leaving her alone. Silence fell upon her, until the door opened again. At the sight of food, Peter fistbumped the air. "Aunt May made meatloaf." He explained.

The two teenagers sat in almost silence, picking at the different takeout containers. They switched to Eve's room, and while Eve was sketching on loose paper, Peter was flicking through the DVDs in her room. He recalled Eve making him watch the Mission: Impossible movies with her. He also recalled her quoting each movie constantly.

Peter put on her leather jacket, which was too small for him. "Hey! How do I look?" He asked, raising his eyebrows.

"Like if your hair was greasier, you could have been in The Outsiders." He shot her a look.

"You just have a random leather jacket in your closet because..."

"Because I'm a secret agent and the IMF is real." She joked. "No, I'd probably be a vigilante." She added.

Peter managed to fall asleep, Eve envied that. She wasn't the type of person who could just fall asleep. Eve walked to the kitchen, noticing her mom was still at work. A dark mist merged from her fingertips. She looked around in confusion. She grew even more confused when she fell through a dark portal, a portal that transported her back to her room.

"What the actual fuck?" She muttered to herself.

I just think we should appreciate Eve.

She's just used to Peter going through her stuff by now.

Okay, bye!
