Cassians POV

Rhysand continues to pace, debating on wether or not he should see Aliera. The girl whom we have never been able to meet or mention, her name is the only thing I'm familiar with. All I know is that she's special, very special.

We all sit in the sitting room, Amren in her usual red chair, Mor lounging on the recliner and Azriel against the wall. The dark wooden floor boards creak under Rhysands pacing, almost like they are silently begging him to stop.

Whenever I've asked about the female, Rhysand always says 'when the time is right I'll tell you everything.' All we know from the inner circle is the less we know, the better.

'She will be fine Rhys, this is the first time we've seen you in fifty years. Amarantha is dead. Your home.' Mor smiles softly standing up, she stops his pacing by enclosing her arms around him for the 10th time tonight. Her deep red gown flows behind her, blonde hair falling down her back.

Hormonal Females.

'Plus you smell... like really bad so maybe a bath should be your first priority?' Amren scrunches her nose in his direction making him chuckle lightly.

Azriel leans against the door not too far away, his shadows full of life at Rhysands arrival. The High Lord arrived in Velaris just over an hour ago, and I swear on the cauldron my knees nearly gave out when I saw his signature smirk plastered to his face as he stood in the doorway.. I haven't seen my brother in over 50 years, the 50 years he sacrificed himself for.

After the emotional welcoming he was his usual self, catching us up on everything. It was like he never left, though something wasn't quite right. No matter how much he says everything is ok his eyes betray him every time, begging to spill all of his secrets.

From the human girl turned high fae named Feyre and her trials and Tamlin assassinating Amarantha to the possible war against Hyburn. We got everything, every tiny detail.

Shit was a lot to take in, my head was pounding by the end of it. I will never ever forget what he's sacrificed to keep all of us safe, not in a million years.

I shift my stance, 'Rhys it's 3:30am she will most likely be asleep or out.'

His eyes glow in agreement, 'Your right, I guess it can wait until tomorrow.. or today more like.' He nods quickly.

Just as he turns to leave, a pounding echos from our front door.

Odd.

Everyone who knows about this place is already here

My guard is instantly up as I look around the room

No one makes a sound.

Azriel naturally takes a step towards Mor, standing slightly in front of her in case of an attack.

Poor guy will forever be whipped for her.

My siphons flare up at the possible threat as I make my way to the door of our home, bracing myself, I swing it open with little force.

Devlon

Fucking bastard had me nervous for a second

The Illyrian stares up at me, wide eyes with fear.

'Devlon.' I mumble in annoyance.

Rhysand is at my side in seconds, 'you are only to come here if something has devastatingly gone wrong' the High Lord growls with anger dripping from his voice.

Devlon continues to look up at us, too shocked to speak.

'Well spit it out, what is it'
