The next day, I went to school and isolated myself in the school library. It was like a safety haven for me. There was no loud or annoying people here. It was only me, myself and the librarian who sat around, reading her books. The kids here did not value education compared to their desire for socializing.
After learning about Gavi and Mariana relationship, I needed time to process the shock and confusion. Who would have knew they dated?
But most of all, why did they break up? I needed to find out. If I knew the reason why, maybe it would resolve my friendship with Marianne. It was awkward with her pretending as if I did not exist. I wanted to bring back what we had before all this chaos began.
Once the bell rang, I grabbed my belonging and headed to class.
In the hallway, I could not help but to hear about everyone talking about this upcoming debutant ball. It was intriguing and interesting. People think that princess go to ball and dances and have the time of their life and that is less than true. I been to a few balls in my life and they were boring.
I entered class and was welcome by the usual look of suspicions and curiosity. I made no friends in this room. People were afraid to approach me and I was fine that. Even at my old school, I had a small group of friends. I prefer quietness over loudness.
I was staring out the window when I spotted Gavi and his crews of soccer player getting out of their bus. It seems they were done with their football practice. He was in his uniform and walking with Pedri by his side. They were joking around judging by how Gavi kept punching him.
He was cute, in his own ways. Still, he was evil. I just knew of it.
"Leonor, the principal called you," the teacher called, snapping me out of my day dream.
Shoot.
What could it be for?
Being called to the principal office was usually not a good thing. The last time I went there, I ended up coming out of the office with the worst news in my life. I hope that didn't happen here.
I entered the office and held my breath.
"I'm calling you here to talk about the debutant ball," the principal said once he saw me.
Even he was talking about this ball? What was so special about it? Was it the met gala of this school or what?
"I'm all ears."
"I chose you to be one of the debutant on the court. Just so you could set a good examples to the girls in the school," he informed.
He did this without my permission. And I did not like that. But even if I did not like it, I could not reject his offer. It would be improper of a princess to deny a request like that.
"Sounds great."
"Here are the practice sets for the ball," he said, handing me a piece of paper with dates and times.
When lunch came, I took my sweet time heading to the library. I found my stomach growling due to the lack of breakfast but I'll just eat after school.
I spotted Mariana in the hallway by herself. She had on her headphones and was walking toward the cafeteria. If I wanted answers to my questions, then right now would be a good time to ask her.
I walked up to her.
She gave me a look of distaste before taking off her headphone.
"What do you want?" She asked in an agitated tone.
"I would like to have a conversation with you."
"About?"
"The debutant party," I replied, completely changing my answer out of fear. I needed to ease into this conversation slowly before I could ask more personal question.
"Of course, the princess would ask about that."
"I mean, the whole school is talking about it," I pointed out the obvious.
"Only dumb bimbos attend those events."
Ouch.
That was interesting, considering how I spent most of my childhood going to dances and parties.
"Don't bother going, the students go there for their instagram pictures. It's the after party that they look forward going to."
Pretty soon, she was entering the cafeteria. And I was right beside her. I spotted Gavi and his group of friends across the cafeteria. I pray that they didn't see me. He would bother me every opportunity he gets. It was a blessing to not see him, contrary to what his fan girls believed.
Mariana was a loner, too. She did not sit with the other students. She sat there in the middle of the cafeteria. It was weird, she been here for three years and still did not have any friends. Something must have happened to isolate her from the rest of the group. I needed to find out why.
"Go on with your boyfriend over there," she instructed.
She must have saw me glancing over at his table.
"No, it's fine."
"So anyway, what's up with you and Gavi?" I casually asked.
She rolled her eyes.
"Is that why you decided to approach me?" She asked, taking out her lunch which consisted of a ham sandwich and strawberries from the garden. "To stalk your stupid boyfriend."
And I instantly felt guilty because in a way she was right.
"You're right, I'm curious about you and Gavi," I admitted.
"If I told you, you wouldn't believe me," she said, almost in a teasing voice.
"Why wouldn't I?"
"Because it ended up with me in the hospital."
"Oh, interesting," I act, trying to act nonchalant, when in reality, I was beyond curious about what happened.
Before I could get deeper into the conversation, Gavi and his friends approached our table.
"Just fucking great," Marinee muttered under her breath.
"Hello, Leonor," he said, giving me a peck on the cheek.
"Hi, Gavi," I greeted, forcing myself to smile. He smelled of cucumber and mint.
Pedri and Sebastian were behind him, eyeing Marianne with the eyes of a predator ready, to devour their prey.
"Mariana, are you not going to say hi?"Gavi asked, beginning his attack.
She glared at him with hatred in her eyes. And I thought I disliked him. But there was pure hatred spewing out of her soul.
"Don't provoke her, she might try to kill you again," Pedri added.
"You don't want to end up in the hospital," Sebastian went along.
What in the world were they on? They were acting beyond disrespectful and I did not like it one bit. Especially, since a lot of people were focusing on us. It was probably amusing for them to see a girl get made fun of.
Her eyes went red. I did not know what their problem was but I could tell that Mariana was very uncomfortable.
"Stop it," I hissed, tugging his sleeve.
"Don't you know anything about your psychotic cousin?" Gavi asked.
"There's a place and time for everything," I told him, trying to discourage him from talking.
"She tried to kill me, and then herself. It was pathetic. She could not stand rejection and dared to play victim to get my -"
I took a strawberry and shove it up his mouth. The whole room went silent. As if I just ate pineapple on pizza or something.
But no, it was probably because I just tried to kill my boyfriend by feeding him a fruit he was allergic to.
