~*Yu Ziyuan's POV*~
I couldn't believe this husband of mine. He actually had the nerve to bring home that servant's son. If I find out it's actually a bastard between him and Cangse, I will not hesitate to kill the boy myself. Jiang Fengmian told me that the boy lived alone on the streets, and to be honest, the boy was a mess, covered in mud, cuts, bruises, and bite marks.
When he arrived, my daughter spent more time training. She stayed up so late in the night and would wake so early every morning. It was like she had a purpose so suddenly after Wei Wuxian came. It was when she sat down with me and told me that she wants me to help her cultivate instead of the mentors we have. I decided to do so. I have to admit, she was doing very well, and had a confidence about her that made her perform better and learn quicker.
She then sat down and told me that the boy was intimidated by me but he admires me...Me! I gave him some hard time but the boy still respected me. When I heard that, I began to question some things about him. So I would secretly observe him. He seemed happy for a child who has been through a rough ordeal on the streets.
When I caught a glimpse into his eyes, I did not see happiness though, I saw grief, sadness, and fear. How was it his fault that his parent were so stupid to leave the child alone to go on a hunt? I decided to go over to him and have a chat with him.
"Wei Wuxian, come with me," I demanded.
The boy walked exactly two paces behind me with his head down slightly. Almost as if he felt like he was in trouble. I decided that I didn't want to have this boy be intimidated by me. He seemed like a bright kid, and I'm sure he was talented like his parents. I wanted to help him get there. The two of us were at a pavilion positioned in the center of Lotus Lake, and we sat down facing each other.
"I want to ask you, and be honest, how do you feel about living in Lotus Pier?" I asked.
Wei Wuxian looked at me for a moment before answering, "I feel grateful to have a roof over my head, a bed to sleep in, and food to eat. I do not want to overstay my welcome though."
Overstaying? How does a child speak like this? Am I really making him feel that way?
"Are you intimidated by me?" I asked.
"A little, when I first saw you I thought you were pretty...but then I got nervous because you were yelling about me living here," Wei Wuxian answered.
I sighed, "Wei Wuxian, I am sorry that I am frightening you," I told him, "I want you to know that this place is your home. I am strict because I care for the reputation of the sect. I do care about my family, and it is not fair to you for me to be so harsh on you. I want you to know that I am sorry that it feels like you are a burden when you are not. You belong here...which is why I had Sect Leader Jiang order new robes for you. You are our newest family member. You may not be our biological son but you can still be our son."
"You want me here?" He asked as I could tell he was feeling overwhelmed with joy.
"I do, and I look forward to see how talented you become when you properly start training. For now, we can officially announce that you are Yunmeng Jiang Sect's adopted son Wei Ying, get you robes and a sect bell," I told him.
"Thank you so much Madam Yu," Wei Wuxian said with a bow.
I pulled him up and into a hug, "that would be Mother from now on," I said.
"Thank you, Mother," he said.
