~*Author's POV*~

Lan Xichen's spirit kept Wei Wuxian company as he watched the young man try to live through the torture of the burial mounds. If it wasn't the resentful energy, it was the cold, or the fact that the sun never shined here. There was no food, and the river that cut through the land was contaminated by resentment. Wei Wuxian didn't have much of a choice though. He had to drink it...though as he used to grow up in the streets as a child he knew some things.

He found ways to boil water to make sure it was clean enough to drink, and when I came to food, there was some wild fruit around the border. The barrier to get out of the mounds was too strong for Wei Wuxian to break, so he had to find a way to get it to break. He could use talismans, but he didn't have enough spiritual energy to use a strong one. Otherwise he'd be out by now. There was even a time when Xichen had to vomit himself, as he witnessed Wei Wuxian eat rotten corpses in order to survive.

Wei Wuxian did not want to be here any longer. He came across black bamboo, and not far from it, was the sword from Xuanwu's shell. It was jam packed with resentment and it was connected to the yin iron. Wei Wuxian spent the next three months eating only one wild fruit a day, which was enough to get by, and freshly boiled water. He then spend many, many, many, hours meditating on the resentful energy, learning to use it, how it worked, how it moved, how I felt.

Wei Wuxian believe his comments in the past were right. Resentment was just another form of energy. If one were to learn to properly use and control it, then there wouldn't necessarily be any problem or reason to worry, and he has no golden core for it to potentially get harmed. That was the number one reason it was successful, because he has no core for it to tamper with.

Lan Xichen was impressed on how quickly Wei Wuxian remembered his studies in Gusu, learning about the music techniques and how emotions are what really help drive the energy. As long as he was not provoked, Wei Wuxian would be fine. He watched as Wei Wuxian crafted the ghost flute Chenqing. The flute had a spirit, that was why is was such a powerful tool. It had a name and it had a spirit, and it was very connected to Wei Wuxian. It made a lot of sense as to why no one could really touch the flute. He did recall seeing his brother holding the flute once...he smiled knowing that. If Xichen was seeing all of this, it was for a reason. He believed that if he knew this, Wei Wuxian would not have struggled as much as he did.

Once Chenqing was made, he watched as Wei Wuxian mended the yin sword into the Stygian Tiger Amulet (Yin Hu Fu). Wei Wuxian was using the energy, and the amulet helped harness the energy. It indeed was a bit different to the yin iron, it was stronger, that much was for sure...so how did it all go down hill?

Lan Xichen followed Wei Wuxian to the entrance of the mounds and saw him break the barrier to get out. Lan Xichen was, once again, so surprised. No matter what this man has been through, he still continues to fight....Nightless City is where he witnessed the fight in Wei Wuxian completely disappear and he had given up.

Wei Wuxian spend a few days at a nearby in to clean up and have a proper meal before going on his way. He went to a few places, one of them, was a supervising office where Wen Chao was hiding. Lan Xichen watched the whole thing, seeing all of the ways that the flute, Chenqing, managed to get the resentful energy to do so that all of the Wen people died horribly. He even watched Wang Lingjiao die and Wen Chao get dragged out by Wen Zhuliu completely terrified.

The next time, he saw what the flute did to Wen Chao, so many burns, scars, bruises, and so on. As Lan Xichen stood there, he could feel a presence above him. Looking up, he saw Wangji and Jiang Wanyin. Lan Xichen was then frozen in his tracks when he heard the door open. Footsteps were being heard as they made their way up the stairs and into view.

Lan Xichen could see the shock and worry fall on his Didi's face. He saw his brother step in eventually and question Wei Wuxian's methods. Wei Wuxian was very clearly trying to push Lan Wangji away from him. Lan Xichen could see that, and he hated seeing his brother so hurt. He knew Wei Wuxian's reason for wanting to push others away, but he wished that Wuxian trusted Wangji enough to at least tell him what was going on.

Later Wei Wuxian was back in the same room as his siblings. Jiang Yanli was a total wreck as she barely slept much because she worried about Wei Wuxian. Now that Wei Wuxian was back, those worried were gone, only for new ones to arrive.
