Every summer C/N's family gets together for a week long barbeque party and this year Y/N is invited by C/N. Before they go over, he warns you to not drink the sweet tea. Does contain legal drinking.
"I would be careful about the sweet tea. Don'tdrink too many," I rolled my eyes.
"I'll be fine, C/N. This isn't the first time you have invited me to your family's parties."
"Yes but now we are both able to drink. The last time anyone new that was of legal age to drink was when my sister turned 21 and that was 7 years ago. Then she brought David around and that exploded. Besides, i don't want a repeat of when we were 7."
"Because he didn't drink and persuaded her not to while they were together for those two weeks. She kept bragging how it was forever for them," I exaggerated throwing up and he smiled. "I'll be fine. I just had a few glasses that day," he turned onto the dirt road and parked his truck. I didn't bring my phone because of the lack of service and told anyone who might need me that I would be out of town without my phone.
C/N's aunt and uncle live in the closest thing to a mansion here. 3 stories, 7 bedrooms, and 8 bathrooms. There is also a pool, outdoor fire pit, and outdoor bar and grill. C/N knocked on the door and his aunt opened it.
"I'm so glad you guys could make it," she hugged C/N and she cupped his face. "Aren't you so grown up?"
"Aunt Natalie," she looked over and saw me.
"Y/N it's so good to see you again," C/N stepped aside and she pulled me into a hug.
"It's good to see you again too, Natalie."
"I told you to start calling me aunt Natalie. Does he tell you that you get more beautiful every day?"
"Let them in the house, Nat. Good to see you guys again," Henry moved his wife out of the way and led us upstairs. "We had a family friend and her family stop in so you guys will have to share. Your parents are already here as well as the other cousins," Henry stopped at our usual room.
"Thanks Henry."
"Thats Uncle Henry to you missy," he went back downstairs and I smiled at the memories.
"Me first."
"No me," I heard the twins yelling as they came upstairs. I sat my suitcase on the bed and they burst into the room.
"Hey Y/N," Jack waved and I smiled.
"You actually came back?"
"Yeah, why not?" One twin hit the other and C/N glared at them.
"No reason. Are you guys going to play?"
"Yea. We were just about to start COD. Wanna join us?" They both nodded and ran to get their controllers. They came back and Jack sat next to me on the couch. Jacob sat on the other side of C/N and we started playing.
"Really Jack?" C/N complained as Jack got C/N out of the game. Jack grinned over my shoulder and Jacob tried to get Jack out. I snuck up behind both of them and I got a winning bonus.
"How did you do that? That was impressive."
"What do you mean?"
"Did you not see all of the detections and traps I set?" Jacob asked.
"Yeah, and?"
"What she means is that you keep forgetting that she's really good at these games."
"No, you guys are just oblivious," I shrugged and Jack nudged me with his shoulder. We played a few more rounds until they got tired of getting beat.
"What do you guys want to do now?"
"I'm going to the kitchen. See you guys later," I went downstairs and heard giggling.
"So who do you think she's going to be with?" I heard Natalie ask.
"Hopefully C/N. He invited her after all," I heard his mom talking and someone laughed.
"I don't know. Jack couldn't wait to see her again. Won't stop talking about her."
"What about Jacob? Do you think he likes her?"
"Naw. He's supportive of C/N or Jacob. He's enjoying the drama," I went into the kitchen and the women smiled.
"I'm so glad you could come this time. We missed you last year and was glad to hear the summer camp was moved to a few weeks ago," I smiled and C/N's mom pulled me into a hug.I stayed with them until it was time to get food finished up. I went outside and the twins were playing Cornhole against C/N and one of the younger cousins. Jack looked over and noticed me watching.
"In the next round, we should let Y/N play."
"I'm fine over here watching."
"Please Y/N. Do you want to prove we are still the best team?" C/N grinned and I couldn't help but notice Jack glare at C/N.
"Ugh, fine," I walked over and we played for a while, their cousin taking note of the scores.
"The score is 17-24, Y/N and C/N winning," he said. "One more round before dinner."
"Going to lose (nickname)," Jack teased.
"Doubtful Jack," I threw the bean bags and made all of the shots. C/N missed one and the twins only managed 2.
"The L/N'S win again," I grabbed a plate of food and sat under the old shade tree.
"I can't believe you guys won again," Jack sat down beside me on the blanket and handed me a cup.
"Did you guys win last year with me gone?"
"Almost. C/N managed six more points. He had (cousin) playing and we almost won," I scrunched up my nose and he nodded. "Did you have fun last year at least?"
"Yeah. They promoted me to one of the head counselors the summer before instead of just an assistant. I'm going to be away for the rest of the summer for that then straight to college. I haven't told C/N yet."
"What are you doing for college?"
"(Small college). I have a dorm on campus but I don't know what he is doing yet. This will be the longest we've gone without seeing each other ever. Remember when he got sick and kept trying to sneak out of the house to see me?"
"He hated that week. Wouldn't stop talking about it for the longest time."
"He seems... different somehow. Happier I guess."
"You did come back last week from camp and you have another week here. He showed up last week and only left when you said you were home. Couldn't stand his empty house. We played games a lot and Jack beat him. It takes a lot to beat C/N at any game, you of all people should know that."
"Wait, Jack beat him?" I asked, confused. Wasn't I talking to Jack?
"Yeah. Beat him at cornhole mainly. Now that I think about it, I haven't seem Jack or C/N this happy since the last summer you were here. Or irritated."
"Its true," I whispered.
"And it only took you one glass to realize. Dad's right; this stuff is magical. See you later," Jacob ruffled my hair and walked off, taking the empty glass with him. I leaned against the tree and one of C/N's younger cousins dragged me over to C/N and the twins.
"We are gathered for another year of the L/N'S. Let's celebrate, " they started up the karaoke machine and the kids started to sing.
"You are next, Y/N," Natalie found me next to the tree again, a sweet tea in my hand.
"I keep telling you guys in not a L/N. This us a L/N family tradition, " she sat down beside me and looked across the yard.
"You are as much a L/N as any of us. You have been coming here for almost 20 years. You are one of the few who continue to come. You don't have to, yet you are still here. Even if you don't want to continue our tradition, you are still as much a L/N as the rest of us. Come on. (Cousin) is almost done with her song," she helped me to my feet and led me to the machine.
I noticed C/N and the twins near the front but back a few rows. I found a playlist I knew and clicked on it. The first song that was chosen was Love Story by Taylor Swift. I sang the song, trying to not look at C/N.
"When I met you on the outskirts of town and I said: 'Romeo save me. I've been feeling so alone. I keep waiting for you but you never come. Is this all in !y head, I don't know what to think.' He knelt to the ground, pulled out a ring, and said..." I finished the song, failing in my previous objective of not looking at him.
The L/N's cheered and wanted another song. I looked over at Natalie and she smiled, nodding. The next song started to play the French version of Please Don't Be in Love with Someone Else, again by Taylor Swift.
"I forgot you knew French," Natalie smiled after I finished and pulled me into another hug.
"It's one of the few songs I know in French. I don't know the whole song in English though," I smiled and felt arms around me.
"You did amazing."
"Thanks C/N," we finished eating and started making smores. I took another glass of sweet tea.
"I need two marshmallows, C/N. Can you grab them for me?"
"Sure," Jack sat down next to me and I threw another log on the fire.
"Beautiful night, isn't it?"
"Yeah, it is. Nice to see the stars for a change. Couldn't go stargazing much at camp because of how busy and cloudy it was."
"There's something even more beautiful out tonight," I took a drink and snorted into my glass. I heard C/N approaching and I looked up at the sky again.
"Ya know, I never understood the myth about the moon being cheese," C/N sat on my other side and handed me the marshmallows.
"How many glasses of tea have you had?"
"I dunno, a few," I watched the marshmallows fall from the stick then disintegrate in the flames.
"How many is a few?" I shrugged, humming a familiar tune, and C/N took the stick from my hand.
"I'm trying to roast mallows,"I whined.
"You need sleep, Y/N. It's late," Jack noted. I laid on my back, staring at the stars.
"I'm tired but I want mallows. Please don't be in love with someone else. Please don't have someone waiting on you," I was picked up and air conditioning blew through my hair. I was brought upstairs and I held onto the person who was taking me into pillow heaven.
"I love you, C/N. I always have, always will," (in French) I muttered.
"Goodnight Y/N," arms wrapped around my waist and I went to sleep.C/N POV
I heard a creak and opened my eyes. I saw the door slightly open and Jacob grinning at me.
"Morning cousin. Sleep good?"
"I guess so. What are you doing up so early?"
""Its only 8:30. I figured I would see if you guys were awake instead of Jack checking in. Come downstairs when you are ready for food, if there's anything left," he left and I looked down. Y/N had curled up and laid her head on my chest. I smiled.
"Whats wrong?" She yawned and I shook my head.
"Nothing, (nickname)," she looked around the room.
"How did I get up here? I just remember the fire pit and..." she dug her face in my chest to try and hide her embarrassment.
"Please don't be in love with someone else. Please don't have someone waiting on you," I whispered and I felt her smile. She took my hand and we laid there for a while longer. This one was cute. I have so many stories started or finished but written in a notebook. I hope you guys enjoy it!
