The Other Maya Was Better

Maya pov

"Can I go to the bathroom?"

"Yes you can."

I stand up from my chair and leave the classroom, going to the bathroom.

I open the door and walk in, but immediately get confused when I find the lights are off.

"Weird..."

I reach my hand out to the light switch, but someone grabs my wrist and stops me before I could. The hand was skinny, strong, had claws, and felt... Metal.

I look and gasp when I see who it was. It was that thing I saw yesterday...

"New girl?! I knew I was right to not trust you!"

"G-GET AWAY FR-"

He puts his hand over my mouth and holds my wrists with the other.

"Wait 'till I tell Y/n what lucky star I found today..."

Y/n... Right! Y/n knows this guy!

He seems to notice my reaction when he says Y/n and holds my wrists tighter.

"Please don't bombard her with unnecessary questions... And I suggest you don't tell anyone about this..."

He surprisingly lets go of me and harshly pushes me out the bathroom.

After a few seconds of just standing there, I realize what just happened and I quickly run back to the classroom.

"THERE'S SOMETHING IN THE BATHROOM"

Dead silence. Until the teacher spoke up.

"Lower your voice Maya. What do you mean?"

"I-I saw something in the bathroom! It wasn't human!"

I glance over at Y/n, who suddenly looked worried.

Some of my classmates started getting up and asking me all sorts of questions, which I answered.

"In the bathroom! Come on!"

Right when I said that, Y/n was quick to get out of her seat. Quicker then the other students.

The teacher kept on looking at me weird as I was describing the thing, thinking I was making a big fuss about nothing and just wanted attention.

I open the door to show everyone and...

Nothing

All the lights were on, there was no sound anywhere, and no proof that it was even there to begin with.

The teacher stepped inside and checked everything. And when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING.

But nothing!

"Wait i-it was right here..."

Some students look at me weird, like I was maybe crazy. Others were a bit happy they got to miss class. But none of them had the same expression as Y/n.

She was confused, but also relieved.

I must have been staring at her for a while, because she almost instantly went back to being worried.

Moon pov

Phew! That was a close one. Good thing this vent is big enough for me to hide in.

I scan the students faces and see Y/n, which eases my nerves a little. But they immediately tense back up once I glance at new girl. I think her name was Maya.

I've only known one other Maya before. But unlike this one, she was sweet, kind of shy, and was one of my closest friends.

I think I still remember the first day I met her~

Flashback

Sun pov

"Alright everyone! Get ready for naptime!"

I slightly flinch and look down while I feel someone tug on my arm. It was the new girl, Maya.

"Sun? I-I don't like the dark..."

I crouch down in front of her and pat her head.

"It's ok Maya~ My brother can help you sleep!~

"B-brother?"

"Yup!"

I stand up and go to the light switch, Maya holding my hand tightly.

'Click'

Moon pov

"Naptime already? Time really flies~"

Suddenly, I feel a small trembling hand holding mine. I look down and see a kid I've never seen before.

"No need to be afraid little one~ What's your name?"

"M...M-Maya..."

"Oh what a lovely name~"

"A-are you Sun's brother?"

Did he really call me brother? Awww!~

"Yup!~ The one and only Moondrop~"

I put my hand on my chest and bow down.

"I see you need my assistance. What's wrong?"

"I-I don't like the dark..."

"Oh... Come here."

I pick her up and slightly cradle her in my arms as I sit on the floor.

She was at first holding onto me tightly out of fear, but slowly her grip loosened, then she was completely asleep.

End flashback

Y/n pov

We made it back to the classroom, and now it seems everyone thinks Maya is delusional.

"Y/n."

"Huh?"

Maya was sitting at her desk, staring daggers into me.

"What the fuck was that thing..."

"What? What do you mean?"

I tried my best to sound clueless, but it seemed she saw right through my act.

"I didn't just see it in the bathroom. I also saw it on the roof with you last night..."

"..."

"So you do know it!"

"What are you talking about?"

"Don't play dumb with me! He even mentioned you."

There's no getting out of this...

"You made me look like a fool out there..."

"You kinda made yourself look like a fool..."

"Oh shut up... Now it makes sense... Those times I would see you talking to yourself, you weren't actually talked to yourself."

I decided to just stay silent with an unreasonable expression. Truth is, I suck at lying.

She gives me one last glare before looking away and doing her own thing. I let out a quiet sigh of relief, thankful she didn't ask too many questions.

Ok so Maya found out about Moon. But that's just one mishap. I'm sure everything is gonna be fine from now on.
