Ribbed

Midnight rain.

It's been 5 years , a lot of time skips had happened in my life, From being a wedding entrepreneur to being a licensed Pediatrician. From being in my hometown to being in a foreign country, I'm finally living the life that I wanted. The life that was made by me and not by other people, in this life It's all about me. I'm finally feeling like the main character of this story, everything is in my hands again, calculated and planned. I have never been happy in my life, so happy that it scares me that something would take it away. Today is a very special day for me and my team, our special baby is finally being discharged after a year. It just feels good to be used to save someone's life, imagine all the potential that kid had, we're all glad it wouldn't be wasted. 

"Lockwood, be in the ward at 5." Kalix said. Of all the people from my past, Kalix was one of the very few I kept close to me. "Yeah, I am coming." I said while I put on my white gown and putting my hair into a ponytail. I walked towards Kaylee's ward with a teddy bear in my hand when someone suddenly shouted my name "Dr. Yve!" "Dr. Yve!" Nurse Even was shouting at the top of his lungs. "Even? God, can you slow down? what happened to you?" "We need you at the ER there's a kid who got into an accident, no doctors are available except you!" "W-what? but i'm not a surgical pediatrician, I'm just a practitioner!" "The head department said you should do it, fast! there's not much time left"  oh my God, was the only words I could utter. Don't get me wrong, I do know how to do surgery but I wouldn't say it's my forte! it was something I would always avoid in Med School and look where it got me. Me and Even ran through the hall going to the ER where there was a lifeless little boy who was about 3 years old laying in the bed with his head almost cut open. I asked the nurses what happened and who was with the boy, "The man said he's his nephew, he went to his car to get the boy's documents" I sighed and ordered for the boy to be transferred in the operating room.  

An hour has passed and the surgery went well. I went outside the ward where the boy was transferred, I was keeping watch since his supposed to be guardian hasn't returned yet. "Hey, you good?" I look up to the voice and saw Kalix handing me a cup of coffee. "Hey, yeah, it's just the boy's uncle hasn't return and it has been 3 hours" "you don't think he left him here right?" "Well, if he did I'm sure you'll be there to adopt the boy" Kalix said sarcastically. "haha funny, very funny Kalix." "You should check Kaylee, she was suppose to go home by 9 yet she kept insisting to stay until you said goodbye." I checked the time and saw it was already 12pm "shoot! I forgot kaylee, mind if you look after him?" "I will be fast." "do I have a choice?" I playfully punched Kalix's arm and rushed to kaylee's room. 

Kalix's POV

It's been an hour since I last saw Yves. "Kalix? where is Yve, she said she would see me right??" kaylee said tugging my lab gown. "don't worry sweetheart, maybe Yve got some emergency doctor things. Of course she would see you" I decided to check my phone in case Yve messaged, but none. I texted her saying "where the heck are you, Lockwood?" I sighed, she probably was caught by Even and was given another task. One thing I learned about Yves was when she loves what she's doing if you give her something that revolves around it she wouldn't say no, but when she doesn't want it, heck it's written all over her face. I stayed beside kaylee's side until she fell asleep then decided to look for Yve, I ran into Even frantically rounding the wards. "Even! Even! you good, bro?" I asked the latter. "Oh, Dr. Mendoza. unfortunately no, Yves was instructed by the heads to operate an open head and I can't stop worrying" so that's why that girl was missing. "stop worrying, you know Yves got it." I reassured him "I don't know how you do it, Kalix." "do what? be assured." I rolled my eyes and left Even as I knew he was busy. 

I checked the OP room and saw the operation finished an hour ago, I look at all the rooms when I saw yve's admiring a little boy sleeping. "Cute" I went down and went to the cafeteria to get coffee and went back to the room where she was. 

"hey, you good?" I said. God, her smile is so precious. I love how she would always say what is concerning her, I reminded her about kaylee and stayed with the boy. 30 minutes in the door opened, expecting to see Yves it was rather a familiar figure. "K-Kalix?" "you're the doctor?" 

Yve's POV

after I said my goodbye's with kaylee, I saw Kalix standing by the door. God is this man everywhere?? "You left the boy?" I asked while crossing my arms. "No, his guardian came." He said bluntly. "Whats up? you good?" "Yeah, don't go there, let them both rest." He told me. "Ok, I'll just check them tomorrow. let's go home?" "No! I-I will follow the boy up, you just stay still." "why?" He grabbed my hand and dragged me towards the elevator. It has been a habit of Kalix to drop me home since both of our shift ends at midnight. 

"Hey you hungry?" Kalix asked me. I nodded frantically as I was honestly hungry and whenever Kalix asks he always pay for the food, Kalix then gave me his phone and I immediately opened the "food panda" app. "So, how was the open-head surgery Dr. Lockwood?" he asked me with his teasing face. I rolled my eyes and just opened the radio and robbers played. We were vibing just singing on top of our lungs after a long night of being mature adults this was the only time I could be silly and immature and that was the time when I was only with Kalix.  "Okay, passenger princess. We're here" Kalix made that nickname for me, he started calling me passenger princess since he would always drive me around. He basically became my private driver.
