I had been emitted to a psych ward for the next few days, but it was a ward off the hospital so Monty was able to stick by my side.
I barely slept the entire time I was there. I felt so ashamed in my actions and embarrassed that Monty had seen me like that.
While Monty was catching up on his sleep I sat in my bed. I glanced over at him every so often. I guess I had never seen him so scared before.
I finally started to doze off after 27 hours of not sleeping. Monty had woken up and saw that I was sleeping.
A nurse came in and talked to Monty.
"How are you feeling? I know that what you've been through is traumatic." the nurse said.
"I'm just glad she's okay." Monty told the nurse.
"Of course." the nurse said.
Deep down that's not what Monty was only feelings. He was terrified, he couldn't lose me.
I started to wake up, I could here things around me. Once I opened my eyes I saw Monty.
"Good morning Paige." Monty said with a smile.
"Good morning Montgomery." I said with a smile back.
I wasn't suicidal, I just felt helpless. Maybe J was suicidal, but after two nights ago, I've felt better. Happier almost.
"Monty let's go do something." I said while stretching.
"Paige you know we can't. You have to stay in this room until 4:00, then you're free to go and do whatever you want." Monty reminded me.
I let out a groan and that made him chuckle. I then spent my afternoon talking to Monty about useless things and I now knew him better than anyone.
"Wait so you're telling me your full name is Montgomery Wilson de la Cruz?" I said giggling.
"Yes it is, Miss Paige Marie Atkins." he smiled at me.
The nurse came in and smiled.
"We're very impressed with Paige's progress, she seems to be doing much better. I have her discharge papers ready to go, and her clothes from the other day in this bag." the nurse informed Monty.
My parents never found out about my attempt. I didn't wanna burden them with it. After all, one of their kids is already dead.
Me and Monty walked out to his Jeep and i sat in the passenger seat. My smile started to fade as J remember the last time I was in Montys Jeep, Jeff's death.
Monty glanced over and saw my smile was practically gone. He knew what was wrong too.
As we drove home I looked out the window. For some odd reason, after almost dying I feel better. I shuffled out of the position I was in and smiled at Monty. He saw me out of the corner of his eye and he started smiling too.
"Paige, I like seeing you like this." Monty said.
I smiled at him again and rested my head on his shoulder. I looked up at him.
"Thank you." I said, keeping my head on his shoulder.
"Paige, don't thank me." Monty said.
"Whatever, you're now my favorite player, don't tell Scott." I said with a slight giggle.
I was happy again. I wasn't sure why. I don't know why a near death experience and 3 days with Montgomery de la Cruz would make me happy, but I was. It was unexplainable.
As me and Monty pulled into my drive way I saw a familiar car. A car, belonging to Scott Reed.
"Why is Scott here?" I asked while getting out of the Jeep.
"Maybe because he's happy to see you Paige." Monty pointed out.
"Yeah that would make sense." I laughed.
As we walked in I ran up to Scott giving him a dramatic hug that almost knocked him over.
"Is she on drugs?" Scott asked Monty.
"Nope, I think she's high on life right now, after almost dying." Monty said while rolling his eyes.
"I'm sorry, it felt like my only way to stop the hurting." I said, not smiling and very seriously.
"Yeah I know, we just need to take it easy for a little bit." Scott said trying to make the situation lighter.
"I'll go pop some popcorn and we can watch a movie." Scott said before walking into the kitchen.
Me and Monty sat on the couch and scrolled through the Netflix catalogs before clicking on My Girl.
Scott came and sat with us and we watched the movie. I was still tired after not sleeping in the hospital and I started to feel my eyelids droop.
I readjusted and now I was cuddled up to Monty. Something about him made me feel safe. I drifted off to sleep to the sound of Montys heartbeat.
"Dude, how are you so chill right now?" Scott asked laughing.
"Maybe because she's asleep and I care about her Scotty." I responded, while stroking Paige's hair.
"What's that? Montgomery de la Cruz actually cares about someone?" Scott said trying not to die from laughter.
"Shut the fuck up Scott." I snapped back.
"Oh whatever, we all knew you were head over heels for her even before everything with Jeff happened." Scott said, still laughing.
"I'm not head over heels for her, and I'll prove it to you Scotty." I said enticing him.
"Oooh I feel a bet coming on!" Scott said excitedly, like a kid in a candy shop.
"I won't talk, care for, or flirt or anything with Paige for the next two weeks. Only with other girls." I said regretting my words al's not immediately.
"I bet you $50 you won't be able to. The second you see Paige's heart break you won't be able to forgive yourself." Scott said, starting the bet.
"It's a bet than, $50 on the line" I said before Paige started to shift.
I stroked her hair again and rubbed her back, and she was back asleep. She looks so calm and happy in her sleep.
"Goodnight, beautiful." I said to her before also falling asleep.
