Winter winced as she placed the ice pack against her lip,her eyes staring across the small apartment, locked onto Karina.

The girl was sitting at the small dining table,a detective from the Seoul Metropolitan Police seated across from her with a laptop open.

She felt both and and fear coursing through her. Angry that someone would actually attempt to kidnap Karina and afraid of what kind of escalation they would make in their next attempt.

Her gut was telling her there would be another attempt. “Care to tell me what was happening in there?”

Turning her head, Winter looked up at Taeyong as she stepped out of the hallway, his brows quirked up in question. He was tall and slender, but one of the most observant people she’d ever met.

She had been trained to lie but knew he could read her face better than she could school it. “She must have kissed my neck out of shock,” she replied as she turned her head away.

“There was more to it than that,” he said flatly as he reached out to tap her shoulder. “I’ve saw the look on your face. What’s going on?” Heaving a sigh, she turned to face him, her cheek and lips red as she pulled the ice pack away.

“She’s expressed an interest in me,” she began slowly, weighing her words as she spoke.

“I have told her,in no uncertain terms, that nothing can happen while i am assigned to protect her.”

She offered up a smile, satisfied with the truth of the matter but not going deeper into detail.

“Nothing can happen while you are guarding her? Doesn’t sound like you shut her down,” he said, his eyes following Winter’s gaze across the room, her eyes filled with emotion as she watched her VIP.

He watched as her lips curved down into a frown, something he’d never seen her do. While she rarely smiled either, her face was generally stoic and emotionless.

The only time he’d seen her exuberant was during team dinners when the soju flowed freely.

“Perhaps not but as long as nothing happens, that’s fine,” she said before bringing the ice pack back up to her cheek and lip.

She glanced sidelong at Taeyong as he gave a slow, rueful shake of his head.

“You’re good at what you do,Winter. Don’t risk your career over fleeting affections.” His warning carried the tone of a friendly warning rather than a admonition.

“Who says they are fleeting,” she challenged, her body tensing as she turned to regard him with sharp eyes, narrowed and set.

She could help but feel protective of hers and Karina’s feelings for each other. It was something she wasn’t easily ready to relinquish.

“Don’t push into something you don’t know or understand.” Holding his hands up in apology, Taeyong took a step back.

He knew that despite her small frame and soft features, Winter was a force to be reckoned with.

“Hey, I’m just trying to make sure you don’t do something you shouldn’t,” he said with a softer tone. “You’re an incredible asset to the team.”

She nodded slowly, her gaze swinging back to Karina, the girls features animated as she described everything that happened in vivid detail.

She was impressed with the clear picture the girl was painting and the most minute details she could recall.

After a minute of silence, Taeyong standing beside her, hands shoved in pocket, she said, “Has her father been notified?”

“CEO Kim should be on the phone with her father right now. Thankfully she was completely unharmed so there shouldn’t be any issue on our end.”
