“Me too but that is in the past. Listen,” he paused, worried at the reaction his next words would gain, “I’m thinking it might be best if you came home for now. You can always picked back up at Ewha another time.”
“I don’t want to,” came her almost instant reply, sharp and firm.
She clutched onto Winter’s hand, not wanting to let go. She knew her desire to stay in Korea had nothing to do with safety, her courses or desire to be away from her family’s obligations.
It was entirely her need to be near the woman sitting across the table from her.
“I know you’re an adult know,” her father began slowly. “I don’t want to force you to do anything but i would just feel better with you nearby. I can’t lose you to a bad business deal I made.” The last part was filled with scorn, a castigation of himself. “I just want you safe.”
“I am safe,” she said in a low voice.
Her eyes met Winter, sparks seeming to fly between them, that familiar warmth of want and longing filling the pit of her stomach.
“If i go anywhere, i want Winter with me,” she said with a firmness. She would brook no argument on this matter.
“Winter?” She could hear the confusion in her father's voice.
“My bodyguard.”
“Right. Mr Kim is currently arranged a secure private plan for you and i want you to give it serious thought. I will call him and arrange for this Winter to come along, if that is what you need.”
The thin line of her lips broke into a satisfied smile as she replied, “I'll give it some thought then. I’m just too tired and in shock to give it much serious thought right now, dad.” She felt as though all of the energy had been sapped out of her body.
She craved three things at the moment; food, sleep and Winter.
“Call me when you wake up,” he said, a fatherly warmth in his voice as he spoke in a hushed tone. “Your mother and me love you.”
She could only imagine how her mother was feeling. Where her father was distant though loving, her mother was doting, constantly hugging and kissing her as she grew up.
“Me too. Make sure mom doesn’t worry too much,” she replied before hanging up.
Starting to set her phone down, she caught sight of the notifications on her phone.
Blinking, she scrolled down from the top of the phone screen to see the notification messages.
