Yujin

"Wow, this is amazing." I said awe-struck at the varying shapes of bubbles adorning the night air. The bubble in the middle of the front gardens was even big enough to be filled with people doing acrobatics.

"Hopefully amazing enough to make you smile, but I don't see those lips lifting, do I?" A voice spoke from beside me.

I smiled at Dayeon's words. "Now that would be an insult to the mages that father painstakingly hired for all of these."

"Ah, there it is. Seems like I don't have to tattle to the King that tonight's gala is lacking." She linked her arms with mine. "But truly, Yujin, are you feeling fine now? We could just stay in your room and let everyone think I've finally succumbed to your whims and will hopefully marry into the royal family."

I groaned, "That gossip made me seem like a tyrant who would pounce at all females I see."

"Still my favorite one to date."

Comfortable silence enveloped us. I laid a hand on Dayeon's arm that was linked in mine.

"I will be okay. I was hurt by his words, but I still have time to dissuade him. I will not allow a vile deed to go unpunished, but between weighing revenge over the life of the people, it should be no hesitation that I choose the latter."

"... You will be a great queen one day, Yujin."

"That's the plan." I smiled.

We quietly watched the comotion below as we were in my chamber's balcony waiting for the others to finish.

"You know," I started and turned my face towards Dayeon. "The gala tonight is where the nobilities finally show their cards and offer them to their fancied partners."

"... Do I want to know where this conversation is supposed to go?" She asked hesitantly.

I chuckled. "Probably not, but I think you need to hear it. Chaehyun has been receiving offers for her hand and the only thing stopping her is her status as my lady-in-waiting. The moment she asks to be let go, I would immediately give her her freedom."

She turned her face away. "That does not have to do anything with me."

I raised an eyebrow at that, "If you didn't have feelings for her, then you don't."

"Exactly."

"But you do."

"I do what."

"Have feelings."

"Feelings for who?"

"For her."

"Who's her?"

I glared at her and pinched her arm. "Dayeon."

She rubbed the part I pinched and smiled playfully at me. "Yeah, I do have feelings for myself. I'm quite the charmer, if I say so myself."

Again, I pinched her and did it harder which made her yelp. "Okay, okay! Stop! Woman, violence should not be your first choice of retaliation."

"Then sarcasm shouldn't be your defense mechanism." I retorted.

She sighed and shrugged her shoulders, wanting to appear casual but obviously melancholic. "She... deserves better."

I furrowed my eyebrows. "You are Kim Dayeon. I will only say this once in case your ego inflates too much, but you're not just better— You. Are. The. Best."
