Yujin
I watch the sun peaking through the horizon. Shades of yellow and orange painted the sky. The wind was cold but the harsh grip on me was warm. At least, I won't freeze, the sarcastic voice of my subconscious cuts through my terror and I find myself wanting to laugh. I'm hysterical— I have to be hysterical. The panic has finally reached me so deep and the thin strings of my sanity are going to snap.
Perfect. Just perfect.
After what seemed forever of flying - there was a point that I actually fell asleep during the night due to exhaustion - I finally saw a mountain in the middle tightly woven trees. There's no mountainside, no hills, nothing leading to the entrance that the dragon dives toward. It's simply an opening in the side of the mountain, with nothing but a sheer drop-off below.
She surges through the opening, dropping me haphazardly as I roll to a stop. I groan as I rub my hips and sides, partially glad that the pressure of claws was gone now. I suppose it could be much worse. I mean, she could have eaten me. I shivered at the prospect of being a dragon's emergency meal.
I cautiously stood up. I'm sore, tired, confused, and I've been taken hostage by a dragon.
The same dragon who killed my mother.
I gulped. Oh gods, is she— did she bring me here to torture me?
I watch the gigantic beast move through the cavern, looking over piles of trinkets and relics that glittered under the early morning light.
"W-what am I supposed to do?" I asked, but the dragon snorted and simply ignored me as if I would forget she could speak.
And just like that, fear and trepidation left me which turned into anger. The audacity of this dragon to take me away from my home! She ruined our castle and harmed my people! She is nothing but a greedy beast taking possession of something that does not even belong to her!
I reach for the nearest object I could grab hold. A silver chalice. I angrily threw it towards her which, unfortunately, only reached her hind legs, the chalice bouncing off to the ground.
That's it. I've officially lost my mind. Why did I not just quietly sit by the side!?
The dragon stalked towards me as I step back, accidentally slipping on something, making me fall on my behind.
"Careful there, little jewel." She snarled and snapped her jaws at me.
I gulped down the fear that came back. "I'm no jewel!"
She raised her head, looking down at me. "Oh, but you are. An appealing accessory to the throne, but still just a small and fragile human."
I'm terrified of the beast. I know what she's capable of, but I refuse to be cowed like some useless girl. If she's going to kill me, nothing I do will change that, and if she doesn't plan to kill me, then there's a good reason and very few things I do will change that.
"Do you have any idea who I am?" She must have. She called me 'Kalopsia's most prized treasure' before she took me away. She must know I'm my father's daughter.
"I know who you are, Princess of Kalopsia. Quite easy to infer as to the amount of knights that quickly surrounded you was almost the same as the king." She growls and hones her hazel eyes at me— no, it's gold. Rich irisis that glowed at me.
Fear gripped my heart. Perhaps she does intend to kill me. I just hope it's quick. I do not want to be a plaything that's tortured for entertainment.
"Do you intend to kill me as you did my mother?" I whispered, but I knew she heard me. Dragons have much better senses than humans.
