Part 6

Max's POV

After eating and joking around Lucas texts that he's outside,

"I'll get these in a to go bag" Gabbi snatches one off the front desk and puts in her remaining fries,

"Come on lets go" I grab her hand and we jog to the car in the rain, unsurprisingly the whole party is there,

"What took you so long?" Dustin asks as we get into the car,

"Nothing" I wrap my arms around Gabbi as she gets comfortable on my lap,

"is that drugs?" El points to the bag in Gabbis hands,

"yes El" Gabbi rolls her eyes,

"What the hell!" Will yells,

"Max you can't!" Dustin yells, 

"MAX!" Will smacks the back of my shoulder,

"Don't hit her you fucking fairy" Gabbi yells,

"Don't call him a fairy!" El yells,

"Or what?" Gabbi smirks,

"Or I will snap yo-"

"CAN YOU JUST SHUT UP!" I yell,

"This isn't drugs! It's fucking fries" I grab the bag and throw it at Will, 

"Oh it's just fries" Will awkwardly laughs as he looks into the bag,

"You know not everything I do has something to do with drugs" I scoff,

"How can we know that Max?" El frowns,

"I don't know?? Maybe just trust me?!" I clench my jaw,

"We don't know where you've been or what you've been doing! Who's Penelope? You can't just fuck about Max!" El yells,

"Fuck about? That's what you think I do??"

"Guys calm dow-"

"Yes Max that's what I think you do! You show back up for school and all the boys are head over heels for you and you give them what they want!"

"No I don't El! You think I want to be the school slut!?"

"How would I know when you fucking give them lap dances for crying out loud!! You are driving me insane! I love you and you god damn well know it so you decide to go around and have sex with all the basketball boys! How do you think I feel!?"

"That was months ago El! We weren't even together then because let's not forget you are the one who cheated on me in the first place!!"

"You two calm down!" Will yells,

"Just fucking shut up!" I push Gabbi off me and get out of the car, I just wish I could disappear, I'm just going to fuck it up again, they don't want this sort of drama with them, they shouldn't be responsible, it is all my fault.

"Max get back in the car!" El yells,

"No El! I'm sorry that you love me but I- I can't be with you" I run in the rain, I feel my throat burn in exhaustion but that's the kind of burn I crave, I make it into the forrest to feel the cool air soothe the ache in my legs but before I know it I'm falling face first into the mud after falling over a stupid fucking tree root,

"FUCK" I yell as I punch the tree beside me, I'm just so sick of this, I pull out my phone and dial the one person I never thought I would,

"Maxin-"

"Pick me up from the north side of the woods"

I nervously tap my fingers as I see his truck round the corner, fuck fuck why did I do this???

"Maxine" He winds down the window next to me, the strong scent of whiskey and cigarettes whisks into my system,

"3 rules"  I look up into his crazy eyes,

"rules?" he raises his eyebrow,

"3 rules for you to stay" I state,

"and if I break them?" he grins,

"then your out" 

"you really think you can kick me out of Hawkins?" he laughs,

"3 rules! you want to stay or not!?" 

"what are the rules?" 

"rule 1 you can't deal to anyone I know, including my mom"

"alright"

"rule 2 is no bringing any drugs back home, leave them in your car I don't care they aren't coming in the house"

"I can live with that" he shrugs,

"and the third one is" I pause,

"make my mom happy" I murmur,

"keep her happy? that woman has treated you like crap your whol-"

"you have to make my Mom happy" I firmly say this time,

"you don't hit her or rape her or anything like that because I will know" I continue,

"Maxine I would never rape anyone" he smirks,

"You need to make her smile and laugh and actually want to live" I add,

"Okay deal" Neil chuckles and opens the passenger door, without a word I get in.

El's POV

"Okay I am stoned but I am also extremely worried" Gabbi says as we watch Max run off,

"That's why she shouldn't see you! You are an addict!" I argue,

"You need to calm down miss girl! And for a matter of fact I am quitting for her" Gabbi pouts,

"She's that bad?" Mike scoffs,

"Oh shut up I am not addicted like her, sure my Dad had an addiction gene but I didn't catch it" She shrugs, 

"You need to tell us if she's been using" Will states,

"No but Neil showed up at her house yesterday" Gabbi says,

"Yesterday? I knew something happened" Lucas says,

"Really cuz I thought you were in cloud 9 all day after your lap dance" Dustin says,

"Lap dance? Why does everyone keep talking about this god damn lap dance?!" Gabbi frowns,

"It doesn't matter! Why was Neil back?" Will asks,

"he's a streetboy" she says,

"what's a street boy?" I ask,

"Oh my fucking god! No wonder Max wants to leave you all! You are all idiots! I-d-o-i-t-s!" She spells out,

"max wants to leave us?" I sniff,

"You are all going about her recovery wrong, you are being too over protective and it's driving her back to drugs, sort your shit or leave her alone" Gabbi says,

"How are we being overprotective?" Lucas frowns,

"Maybe because 1st of all you don't let her make new friends, 2nd of all you don't trust her"

"yes we do" Will interrupts,

"uh no you don't and also you tell your parents everything she does!" Gabbi says,

"that's different our parents aren't like tha-" Dustin tries,

"your parents put her in fucking rehab!" she yells,

"they had to!" I say,

"And El you completely loose your shit over her! Are we all just going to forget about that fucking blow up before because I'm pretty sure it's the first time I've ever heard you swear!"

"I- I just want her to be okay"

"What the fuck?!" Gabbi yells,

"Ow what the hell??" Dustin covers his ears,

"That was Max, in Neils truck, with Neil" Gabbi says,

"What?" Will whips around,

"Why is she with Neil!?" Dustin asks.
