*The paradox of emotions that wash over me when you come into view is nothing short of bewildering. There was a time when I regarded you as my closest confidant, my best friend. But in the blink of an eye, my mental allegiance shifted, and I found myself tethered to you in ways you were oblivious to. Your eyes, your smile, your laughter, the very essence of your soul, and the unparalleled care you bestowed upon me—these were the threads that wove the fabric of my entanglement. I became yours, whether you acknowledged it or not. Yet, tragically, I am not yours. She claimed that privilege.

Am I misguided in feeling this profound ache? One moment, we were inseparable friends, and in the next, you withdrew, leaving me yearning for a connection we once shared. I couldn't fathom existence without you, so I took a leap into the unfamiliar, pursuing you with a determination I never knew I possessed.

I chased you relentlessly, ensuring you recognized my presence, my significance in your life. The same significance that echoed when I held you through the darkest hours after your mother's ordeal. But, despite my efforts, you chose her, leaving behind not only your best friend but the one who loved you beyond measure.

Was it because of her appearance? Her slender figure, her golden locks, and captivating blue eyes, accentuated by a flawless spray tan? Or was it her compliance, bending to your every whim? Was I lacking in support, in pleasure, in uniqueness, in wealth, in stability, or in a pristine mental state? Or was it the fact that I carry your child, a bond she does not share?

Your explanation was simple—because I am me, and she is she. Or so you claimed.

A few hours earlier, before Lilly Vervain's arrival

"Y/n, can we please go to Hogsmeade? I want to pick up something for Christmas for a few friends, but I don't want to go alone!" Draco pleaded with puppy-dog eyes, hoping for a favorable response. My eyes rolled in mock exasperation, a grin playing on my lips at the sight of his excitement.

"Draco, I have to finish studying for the potions quiz tomorrow! Snape will be furious if I score below a 95%! And shouldn't you be studying too? To please 'Daddy Malfoy'?" I retorted, engrossed in the textbook sprawled out in front of me.

With a huff, Draco rolled his eyes, urging me to put aside my books. "Haven't you studied enough? Just this once, Y/n! I've done my studying, and please, never say 'Daddy Malfoy' again. It's cringe-worthy." His hands gently gripped my arms, attempting to coax me away from my desk.

I pulled my arm away with a smirk before conceding to his proposal. "Alright, fine. I'll go, but just this once," I sighed, reaching for my jacket and scarf.

"Where are my gloves?" I inquired, scanning the room and locking eyes with Draco, who held them with a mischievous smile. That sneaky rat.

"Right here, Madame," he quipped in a sophisticated accent, handing me my gloves. His sly grin hinted at an impending scheme.

"If I go to Hogsmeade with you, you owe me something," I declared as we left the common room.

Draco's strides, driven by his long legs, made it challenging for me to keep pace. Seizing the opportunity, I gathered a handful of snow, creeping up behind him before depositing it down his shirt.

"AHHHH! WHAT THE—You're gonna pay for that, Amabel!" Draco's exclamation echoed through the hallway as I sprinted towards the Three Broomsticks, seeking warmth.

The pub, filled with students from various years, was my sanctuary. However, my tendency to get blackout drunk every time I visited tempered my enthusiasm for solo trips. While waiting inside, muffled voices outside piqued my curiosity, leading me to witness Draco and his cohorts with a new girl. The tension in Draco's demeanor caught my attention, a rarity for someone known for his disdain. Little did I know, Lilly Vervain's impending arrival would set in motion a chain of events I hadn't anticipated.

"Amabel! It's an absolute delight to lay eyes on you again! It feels like an eternity since our last encounter, which, if my memory serves me right, was during yesterday's lunch," Theo exclaimed, his enthusiasm evident as he engulfed me in a bear hug, squeezing with such exuberance that I feared for my oxygen supply.

"My goodness, Theo, spare the girl, won't you?" Blaize interjected with a wry grin, observing Theo's exuberant display of affection.

Suddenly, a frigid explosion enveloped my face in an icy embrace. The world turned momentarily white, and a chill ran down my spine. It dawned on me – Draco had just nailed me with a snowball square in the face.

Laughter erupted from the group, echoing in the crisp winter air. Unamused, I felt a surge of irritation, my face undoubtedly resembling a ripe tomato in its vivid shade of red. If this were a cartoon, steam might have billowed from my ears, but reality only showcased the embarrassment etched on my features.

Before I could formulate a retaliation, Draco vanished like a fleeting ghost, his departure accompanied by taunts. "You can't catch me; I'm the gingerbread man!" he called out, leaving me momentarily stunned and contemplating my next move in this wintry game of mischief.
