"so, i have a question." awsten started. it was getting towards the end of science and we were just hanging out for the last ten minutes of class.

"what's up?" i asked him.

"i think my friends are going to kill me if i don't sit with them at lunch again. so, i was wondering if you'd sit with us too? you don't have to, i know you don't like them, but it'd mean a lot and i'd like to introduce you as my girlfriend." awsten said. i smiled.

"sure, we can. and, i don't dislike them. they just annoy me a bit that's all." i replied. i watched as awsten's face lit up.

"really? are you sure?"

"yes, of course. i just have to tell lana and melanie that we're not sitting with them today."

"okay, that works. thank you." awsten thanked me. i just smiled and shook my head.

"you don't have to thank me, babes. they're your friends, of course we can sit with them." i told him.

*beep*

awsten and i grabbed our things and began to head to the cafeteria. i really didn't mind that we were sitting with his friends, even though i didn't really like them much. but, who knew? maybe they had changed since middle school.

at least, i hoped.

awsten's pov

"it's about damn time. i was starting to think you forgot about us." tyler laughed as i approached our table. i just shook my head.

"nah, he didn't forget about us. he was just going through with the bet, eh awsten?" jawn elbowed me. i laughed, nervously. y/n was just across the room and i didn't want her to hear.

"did you go through with it?" geoff asked.

"show us a pic, or it doesn't count." otto added. i just rolled my eyes, taking my phone out. i searched for the picture of y/n and i on our date and i showed them.

"there. you all owe me $50." i said, with a proud smirk. all of my friends pulled out their wallets and handed me $50 each. $250 and i got to have y/n as my girlfriend. which reminded me. "by the way, y/n and i are actually dating now. she's really cool and i like her. she's gonna sit with us, if that's cool?"

my friends all nodded in agreement and shrugged.

"just try not to be assholes, please. and, if any of you mention the bet i swear to god you're done." i said.

"relax, knight, we're not telling your little girlfriend about to the bet. we're not that big of assholes." tyler said, rolling his eyes.

"good because she's coming right now." i replied. i made my way to y/n as she walked our way and we met in the middle.

your pov

"hey!" awsten greeted me with a smile when we met in the middle. i smiled back.

"hey, yourself." i greeted him back. he grabbed my hand and interlocked our fingers.

"ready?" he asked me. i nodded.

"of course."

we walked to his table of friends and we sat down. he kept me close to him, which i appreciated, but i wasn't worried. i wasn't scared of his friends. they were less than a threat to me and i didn't care about how they'd act towards me. i knew awsten would stick up for me.

"hey guys." i greeted the group with friendliness. a part of me reminded myself that maybe they weren't as bad as they were in elementary and middle school. high school is for maturing after all.

"hey, y/n." geoff first greeted me. then everyone else greeted me with friendly hello's which actually reassured me a little bit, even though i swore to myself i wasn't scared of them.

"how have you been?" jawn asked me. "none of us have really talked to you since middle school."

"well, you all were too busy picking on me to worry about my well being those days anyways." i laughed. but, i then saw the look of guilt flash on all their faces. maybe they weren't so bad then. "but, i've been good. and, yourself?"

"i've been good. i think i speak for everyone when i say that we'd like to apologize for how we treated you back then. it was all immature and childish. surely, we can start on a fresh slate?" jawn asked me. everyone seemed to nod in agreement that they were sorry as well and i just offered a willing smile.

"it's water under the bridge." i said. everyone seemed to loosen up and smile while awsten just gave my hand a reassuring squeeze. i looked at him and he snook a quick kiss on my cheek. how was he so adorable?

the rest of lunch went smoothly. we all laughed and made casual conversation. a few times melanie and lana made "you good?" glances to me from across the room but i simply nodded. awsten's friends were fine. as i stated, it was water under the bridge. it was in the past.

after lunch, we all cleaned up and awsten decided he'd walk me to my next class.

"they weren't too bad were they?" he asked me. i shook my head.

"no, no, they were fine. they've definitely matured since middle school. well, besides tyler and josh having a chocolate milk chugging competition and josh spitting chocolate milk all over otto. but, that's just them." i replied. awsten laughed.

"you gotta admit, that was funny." he said.

"i never said it wasn't. i just pointed out that it wasn't mature." i pointed out. he shrugged as we came to a halt. we reached my next class.

"eh, who really needs to be that mature in 10th grade anyways?"

"fair enough." i agreed. i then looked at the time. awsten had one minute to get to his class. "okay, you have to run because 7th period starts in less than a minute."

"but, i don't wanna leave you." awsten pouted. i kissed him on his cheek.

"go, go, you don't want detention. i'll text you, this is just a study hall anyways." i told him.

"ugh, fine. text me."

"will do."

with that, awsten practically ran down the hall as he tried to make it before the bell. i just shook my head and walked into my class and took a seat next to one of my friends.

that boy truly was something else.
