"hey, mom." i said, as i walked into the kitchen. my mother was sitting at the table drinking coffee while she scrolled through tiktok. it amazed me how addicted she was to that app when months before she swore she'd never download it because she thought it was stupid.
"what's up, pumpkin?" she asked me. i shrugged.
"not much. do you mind if awsten comes over tonight?" i asked. "today marks a week since we officially started dating and i want you to meet him."
"oh, you guys are dating now?"
"i didn't tell you? i could have sworn i did."
"must have not. but, yes he can come over. i'd like to meet this boy."
"you're gonna love him. also, can we order a pizza for dinner?"
"sure, i'll order domino's whenever you're ready."
"okay, thanks momma. i'll go text awsten."
i ran upstairs to my room and plopped on my bed, grabbing my phone.
you: mom said you can come over :) also do you like domino's?
aws<3: domino's slaps i'll be over in a half hour
you: okay :)
i set my phone down and ran to my wall mirror to fix myself up. i had woken up from a nap an hour earlier so i didn't exactly look so hot. i brushed my hair and put it in a bun and then fixed up my makeup. i sighed when i realized how quiet it was without my record player. i planned to save up for a new one, even though the one i had before was a bit expensive.
once i deemed myself semi presentable, i went back downstairs so that i could wait for awsten. i took a seat by my mom who was—still—watching tiktok.
"mom, i'm seriously scared of what your screentime looks like." i laughed. she shrugged.
"it's not my fault that this little video app is so addicting." she said.
"would you mind closing it for just a second so that you can order the pizza? awsten will be here soon."
"that, i can do."
she closed tiktok and dialed domino's number. she ordered two pizzas and their garlic parmesan bites that were so good. she also ordered a 2 liter of soda and then wrapped it up. it would arrive in 45 minutes which was just a little bit after awsten arrived.
a little while later, i heard a knock at the door. i shot up out of my seat, anxious to let awsten in. i heard a small laugh emit from my mother and i gave her a look, to which she just held her hands up.
"hi!" i greeted my boyfriend with a smile. he smiled back and held up a brown paper bag.
"hey! i brought cookies my mom and my sister made." he greeted me back. he handed me the bag and i opened the door wider so he could come in.
i led him to the kitchen and set the bag of cookies on the counter. my mom stood up and gave him a warm smile.
"mom, this is awsten. awsten, this is my mom, y/m/n." i introduced the two.
"it's very nice to meet you, y/m/n." awsten said, holding his hand out to shake hers.
"you don't need to shake my hand, i'm not a dad for crying out loud. give me a hug, sweetie." my mom replied. awsten laughed and hugged her and i laughed as well. my mom was a huge hugger so it didn't surprise me that she hugged him.
"the pizza should be here shortly. you two can hang out in the living room if you'd like." my mom told us. we nodded and headed out to the living room, sitting down on the couch.
