Dana was woken up by a crash coming from down stairs. Dana quickly got out of bed to investigate on the noise that she had heard. She rushed down the steps only to see her mother standing there. The smell of liquor coming off of her was very intense. Dana had seen her mother drunk before but it was never as bad as it was now. Dana slowly started to shrink back to the steps but Dana's mother caught her before she got to leave.
"Where do you think you are going?" She slurred, "Why don't you join me?" She asked as she held up the bottle of whiskey in her hand.
"I would rather not." Dana replied strongly.
"Awe come on, one drink won't do you any harm. Come on Sweetie, no need to be so scared." She said as she started to walk towards Dana as she held out the bottle towards Dana. Dana walked backwards as her mother walked towards her in a drunken state.
"I'm good. I don't want any." Dana said sternly. Dana's mother was still walking towards her.
"Awe no need to be a baby, take it, drink it!" Dana's mother replied angrily. Dana's mother's footsteps started to quicken and Dana was rushing backwards to get away from her mother. Dana felt the back of her foot hit the first step on the stairs and Dana fell backwards and hit the back of her head on the step. Dana's mother was still walking towards her still with determination and anger in her eyes as she stared down at Dana. Dana felt extremely scared of what her mother would do to her. Dana tried to crawl up the stairs, but her mother pulled her back by the foot with a powerful yank. Dana was pulled down to eye level with her mother. Dana's mother brought the bottle up to Dana's mouth.
"Drink it!" Dana's mother yelled as she tried to force the liquid down her throat, "Why won't you swallow it? Swallow it!"
Dana denied her command and refused to swallow the liquid. The liquor was poorer all over Dana's mouth from her mother trying to get her to drink it. Once the bottle was empty her mother got up and got off of her.
"I never liked you. When people say the best thing ever is having kids. I never felt that way." Dana's mother said to Dana in disgust.
Dana just stared at her mother in fear. Dana never before had experienced her mother like this. Dana's mother was acting out of control and was crazy, Dana feared that her own life was in danger. She thought about moving backwards and escaping to her room, but she feared that she wouldn't make it far. She looked to the side. The railing was on both sides of her and she was seated on the stairs in a not so lady like position. She tried to sit up, but her mothers foot was on her chest and pushed her back. Dana was trapped there under her mother's foot with no place to go. Dana was scared to death. Any movement could be the last thing that she ever did.
"I always wonder why I got you. Why I didn't get somebody prettier and more useful. But I got you. I know I can't blame any body but myself." Dana's mother said. Dana decided that it would be best if she stayed silent.
"You know you aren't my child, right?" She said, "You are adopted. Your parents didn't want you. I felt sorry for you so I adopted you. That was a mistake." Dana was in a state of shock. She never knew that she was adopted. She always thought that the women in front of her was her mother for all those years when she really wasn't. She felt broken and she felt like her whole childhood was crushed right in front of her eyes, and it destroyed the little pride and happiness that she had left. It was gone. Dana felt so much rage for this women that she didn't even want to look at her. She couldn't believe this woman could do that to her. Even when Dana was old enough she still didn't tell her. All it took was a little alcohol to make her tell me the truth that she had been keeping from her for so long. Dana looked up and looked at that women's face that was filled with disgust. She exchanged the same expression with her.
"How can you have such a cold heart and keep something like this from me? How could you do that? All this time I thought you were the only family I had when really I didn't have anybody. Do you know how that feels? To never be loved? I do." Dana said.
"You don't underst" " she didn't get to finish before Dana interrupted her, "Oh I do. I'll see you later." Dana walked up the stairs not feeling scared anymore. Dana's "mother" just stood there shocked by what she just heard cone out of Dana's mouth and not able to move.
Dana rushed up the stairs into her room. I need to leave, I need to get away from here, I need to be free. I can't stay here, its not safe here . I can go to the woods, make my self a home. I thought to myself to attempt to comfort myself. I need to find my mother. I need to know her and why she decided to leave me with that she devil. Why didn't she want me?Why was I not wanted? What did I ever do to her? What was her personality like? Was it like mine? There were all these questions that Dana wanted to ask but first she needed to find the person who held them. Dana grabbed an empty grocery bag from under her bed and filled with the little amount of clothes that she had.She put in an extra pair of shoes and closed the bag. She looked around the room for anything else she might want to bring with her. Her room was filled with the memories that she made here, she didn't want to keep those memories. She turned to her window and opened it. She put one leg through and then looked back st her room. It was time to leave, I need to start new. Dana put her other leg through the window and slid out of the room.
She then closed the window and when she looked out onto the village that she would leave forever, she spotted the fountain and then she remembered. Oliver Fray. Oliver Fray. Oliver Fray. Fray. Fray. Fray. Why was that name so familiar and why do I feel this connection to it? There is another mystery for me to uncover.
Dana looked at the ground below, It starts now. She jumped.
