EUNICE VERGARA
"Gracious charity, what time is it?"
I was barely breathing and almost fainting when the school seal finally appeared right before my weary eyes as it came to me that I finally arrived at the school gate for the first time this school year. I reached for something to hold on to as I try my best to catch my breath and prepare for another long and dreadful take off.
"Last call for Miss Eunice Vergara, please proceed at the backstage right now."
I would've halted and appreciated the extraordinary accent of our student council president if only she wasn't calling out for me like we're in a state of emergency.
I almost muttered a curse out of disappointment when I realized that I just became the first subject of announcement when I'm the one who was assigned to make the debut broadcast. What an irony!
"Excuse me! Coming through!" I was literally battling against time - because I was late for several minutes and space - because students were flocking at the corridor making it impossible for me to pass through.
"For someone who fought for 'responsible leadership,' you're very much late." A voice spoke behind me while I was busy trying to shrink myself just so I could overtake.
When I had the chance to turn my head, I saw an unwanted and totally uncalled for salvation! "Teejay! Please pave the way!" I begged, putting my hands together in front of his head.
"What do you think of me? John the Baptist?" He scoffed with disbelief. Since he mentioned a saint, I silently prayed to him inside my head and several others hoping my cry for help would reach the heaven sooner than now.
"I am so doomed! What do I do? Think! Think!" I keep on glancing at my watch fuelling my nervousness as I watch it's hand tick by the second, and here I am stuck at the busy hallway - hopelessly looking upward trying the assess the crowd thinking of a near to zero percent chance of possibility to escape.
Without any choice aside from waiting, since taking a detour is certainly a suicide mission, I couldn't help but resort to 'slight pushing' as my last call. I should've known these corridors were narrow for a reason.
I have no idea how many classic cursing words were invisibly popping out of my head, but I ended up whispering my uncanny thoughts through the wind. "Stupid wheel of misfortune."
I was anxiously snapping my fingers when I felt a pair of hands - one at my back and the other below my knees, and one moment after, I could no longer feel the ground on my feet. I draped my right arm on someone's neck for balance and that's when it finally registered to me that I was being carried, and without my necessary consent!
Holy chivalry!
"What are you-"
I was about to deliver my anguish protest when he suddenly cut me off. "Shush. Just play dead."
What am I? A pup?
"Do it, or you we won't make it in time." He whispered when I just stilled and did nothing.
Under normal circumstances, I would've pulled his hair, grab his ID lace or maybe scream and curse him for allowing such little space between us, but I am in serious distress and my only choice was to play along.
"Cover your face." I transferred several strands of my hair on my face then I closed my eyes.
Never have I imagined myself being this intimate with Teejay, but things happened and before I knew it, I was already laying my head on his chest, my right arm hooked on his neck while the other was draping freely just to add a little detail of me - being a lovely weakshit.
