EUNICE VERGARA
"Can you explain again how this four right here turned into five when it got here?" Emi showed me her notebook and confusedly pointed at the item number she couldn't get.
I leaned on her side and started explaining to her using a soft voice while keeping half of my attention to the professor discussing in front. She was just nodding the entire time, but whenever I proceed to the next number, she'll ask questions about the former one, so we spent almost half an hour reviewing the same thing.
Our little discussion lasted even after the professor has ordered us to dismiss, so I think it's no little anymore.
"Make sure to count the number of C elements first. And remember this abbreviation so you can easily determine the consecutive elements to count. Understood?" She was biting her nails, stomping her feet and tucking her hair behind her ear repeatedly - signs that she was barely paying attention.
She spent several more minutes asking questions we've already tackled earlier, so I also tried paraphrasing and explaining them in different ways just so she could finally understand.
"This is too much information to process in one sitting." She said grabbing her head because of frustration. I held her hand to stop her from pulling her hair before resuming to our short informal lesson.
"The rest I guess is instincts?" My statement was meant to enlighten her, but she might have taken it the wrong way because her face went crestfallen.
"This is bad. How do I obtain that?" She asked nonchalantly which earned a laugh from me. I patted her hair because she looks quite adorable even when distressed -like a puppy struggling to leak her paw.
"Emi, even dogs have instincts, so I am certain you already have that. And it doesn't always have to come from your head, you can also trust your feelings, you know." She doesn't seem to believe at my short pep talk , and she just continued jotting down the things I always remind her but she kept on forgetting. "Would you like to take a break?" She nodded and immediately laid her head on the arm chair. She must have been really exhausted for her to desperately take a short nap.
"Finally!" I heard Bailey screamed when we went out of the room. They did not bother to inform me that we will be taking our snacks together so I had no idea that they were actually waiting for me to finish."Can you walk a little faster? 'Cause I'm famished." She told me as we strode the hallway filled with students who are busy chitchatting about stuff I am certain not about school.
"You could have eaten first. I won't really mind." We halted for a moment when we reached the end of the stairs and realize that the cafeteria was already full. I was not surprised since it had been ten minutes since the bell rang.
"Let's divide the task. Eunice, you are assigned to redeem our money, Vanessa will order and I will find us vacant seats. Here." Bailey sounded like a coach instructing her team and handed me a cash. I obeyed silently since I was part of the reason why we were caught up in this situation.
I also feel bad because Vanessa has been silent the whole time which means she is already very hungry and she must have already consumed her freshmilk while waiting for me earlier.
After doing my part, I scanned the area to look for Bailey and as if on cue, I found her raising her hand towards me. I walked slowly being careful not to bump against someone. When I was nearing, it was when I realized that Bailey was seated with two persons who probably occupied the table first. I would call it unusual rather than unfortunate that those two persons happened to be Cedric and his bestfriend Marky.
