EUNICE VERGARA
"I know this was supposed to be a therapeutic meeting, and I'm not trying to be nosy, although I would sound like one after asking the question, but what's up with you and Ricky?"
"It's Ricci. At least get the name right Eunice." Bailey corrected me in a snobbish tone. "And there's nothing. We just like hanging out together. Enjoying each other's company." She shrugged her shoulders.
I forcefully cross my arms. "Why don't you just merge companies then if you both like it so much."
"Unbelievable humor." Vanessa shook her head and turned away from me like I embarrass her or something.
"What about you? Who's your crush? Do you even have one? If none, then go get one! Give your life a problem!" I stated without taking a single breath.
Vanessa frustrates me more than Bailey because at least I saw the latter hanging with boys whom she had "no feelings" with, but Vanessa, she's too...secretive. And I don't think I like that.
It takes a long time before she would crack up and it drains me more than my duties as part of the council.
"I'm not interested." She said in her usual monotonous tone.
"Well me, I have one!" I exclaimed which made the both turn to my side with eyes almost popping. Bailey pushed the computer chair at the side of the bed where I was seated and Vanessa, tried real hard to contain her astonishment, though she failed miserably and allowed herself to go near me as well.
"Really? No way? Who?" They said simultaneously, curiosity flowing through their widened eyes. Bailey even held both side of my shoulders and shook the spirit out of me when I didn't answer them fast.
"What? I thought we decided to lie to each other starting today?" Their face immediately turned sour and I just smirked. They went back to their respective corners and left me at Vanessa'a bed.
I lied down and tried to find a comfortable position at a very comfortable spot. I fiddled on my phone only to see Teejay's recent messages asking for my stand about his long time predicament.
I decided to reply to them later because I bet he's still on a date.
Silence filled the whole room. Vanessa was busy reading the third book of her favorite series. Bailey on the other hand is watching pony videos on a laptop.
The dog videos were entertaining enough to keep me occupied after hours of staying idle at Vanessa'a room. She remained reading her book the whole time and her stance was screaming how unwelcome we are to disturb her silent session. Bailey went home after me probably prolonging her stay away from their house.
Struggling to arrive as early as I could, I pedaled on my bike as I feel my phone vibrating on my pocket for Dad's third call in just five freaking minutes. I strode the empty pathway with the fastest speed I could produce but night was faster to arrive.
It was already dark when I reached my destination, and I need not to be a genius to conclude how I am so behind the allotted time.
And I was right. Below the rectangular chandelier which illuminates the dining area was the unexpected crowd whose gazes were fixed at my direction. All of them were unfamiliar except for one.
Dad cleared his throat and urged me to come closer to where they settled. The three of them were seated on the right side of my father at the head of the glass table.
I hesitated for a while because I probably look so haggard after cycling for several kilometers! And to be presented like this in front of them who are obviously expecting a classy and formal dinner with me is such a huge embarrassment!
