"My legs seriously can't move faster than this?! Run! Come on!" Dallas thought.
A big, brown bear running at him with its mouth open. It started to pick up speed, it's big paws thumping against the dirt.
"How did I get into a situation like this?" He thought.
He looked behind him to see the giant jaws of the beast right before his face about to devour him.
Dallas jolted up, sending the bag of peas flying. He felt pain shoot through every nerve in his body. He grabbed his side, propping himself up with one arm so he wouldn't fall again.
"Are you alright, Dal?" Johnny asked, turning his body to look at Dallas from his spot on the ground.
"Yea, I'm alright. My side just hurt when I sat up. What time is it?"
"7AM."
"Damn, that's the longest I've slept in a while. Besides when I was knocked out for 4 days." He thought to himself.
He stood up and he got real dizzy. He started to breath shallower as he walked to the kitchen with Johnny following him like a lost puppy.
He saw everyone but Two-bit having breakfast. Johnny sat down next to Pony while Dallas stood there.
"Where's the medicine?" He asked to everyone.
"On the counter." Darry said, using his head to nudge at the direction of the counter. Dal grabbed the bottle and poured three out, popping them in his mouth. He downed them with some spit and walked back to the living room.
He lay down on the couch carefully, sure to not hurt his stomach. "God I'm so hungry. But that just means it's working. I don't deserve food. Much as I don't deserve a life on this world. I don't deserve the gang. How nice Soda is to me. I don't deserve anything good in life. I deserve to suffer. Maybe in another life I could be happy. But not in this one. I hope death is peaceful at least." He thought while staring at the off-white ceiling.
"Me and Steve are off to work!" Soda yelled at Darry.
"Alright, be safe!" Darry called back.
He could feel the sickening vibrations of the door slamming shut. He held his head from the throbbing the noise made.
"Come on, Pony! Your about to make us both late! And if I lose my job because of this you will not here the end of it!" Darry yelled.
"Alright! Alright, I'm coming! Johnnys coming with us bye the way." Pony grumbled back.
He heard the door creak open then shut with a click. "Everyone's gone already. This is gonna get boring." He thought. But it never gets boring when Dallas Winston is left with his thoughts.
He got lost in thought for hours, just laying there until somebody came home. First it was Sodapop, Steve, and Pony.
"Hey, Dal! Ya feeling any better?" Soda asked closing the door and walking over to him.
"Yeah, a bit." He groaned, lying though his teeth.
"Well that's good. Me and Steve are gonna make some cake, holler if you need me!"
"Sure."
He felt some weight on the end of the couch by his feet. He looked over to Ponyboy, who already had a book in his hands.
"Pony, when do you ever put a book down?" He asked, laughing.
"Never." Pony replied smiling.
Dal closed his eyes so he appeared to be sleeping to others. He was too scared of the nightmares to go to bed on purpose.
