You wake up monday morning and check your phone.

hawk: walk with me to school today?
you: i'd be honored to😌
hawk: haha. i'll be at the apartments at 7:30
you: i'll be ready

You sit on your bed for a moment in thought. You think about the time that you and Hawk have spent together. He is honestly your bestfriend at the moment. Yeah...just a friend. You remember all the little moments of tension between the two of you and for a second you catch yourself blushing. You finally get up and start to get ready.
About 15 minutes later you grab your things and leave your room.
"Morning Birdie" your mom says smiling at you
"Morning mom" you say back to her before walking out the door.
Hawk is already outside waiting for you.
"Is Miguel coming with?" you asked
"Nah he left a few minutes ago" Hawk responds
The two of you head to school and arrive just before the first bell rings. You make your way to your class and sit in the first empty chair you see. The intercom blares through the speaker giving the morning announcements. Everything is normal until you hear the microphone squeak. A familiar voice call across the speaker. Tory's voice. 
"Samantha Larusso..you know what you did and now your gonna pay for it. I'm coming for you bitch!" Tory yells through the mic
You immediately get up and run out the door. A crowd had already formed in a circle surrounding Tory and Sam went you get there.
"I saw what you did at the party" Tory snaps "You kissed Miguel"
You look up to see Hawk standing behind Sam. Tory swings, Sam ducks and starts to run the other way before being pushed back in by Hawk and some others. You give him a disapproving look but he doesn't seem to care. The two girls start to fight. A boy with long hair pulls Tory off of Sam. Miguel runs to him and punches him in the face. And then..All Hell brakes lose. Everyone is fighting. A guy swings at you. You've never done karate but you've been in plenty of fights. Without thinking you duck and he smashes his hand into the lockers behind you. You stand up and kick him across the face. You run to follow Tory and Sam who were already downstairs. You hear a loud crash and see Hawk laying on the ground below a shattered trophy case.
"Holy shit" you say to yourself
You run to him.
"What the fuck is going on" you scream
Another boy swings at you. Hawk catches his fist, throws him to the ground, and stomps his face into the broken glass.
"Eat shit pussy" he says before spitting on him and grabbing another kid
"Hawk Stop!" you scream at him
He doesn't listen
"Fuck this" you say
You run back to where Tory and Sam were fighting. You hear a scream from above and see Miguel falling from the balcony.
"Miguel!" You scream.
He hits the staircase which instantly knocks him out.
You run to his side and lift his body onto your lap.
"Miguel. Come on" you shake his body
Hawk runs to your side.
"MIGUEL COME ON!" you scream shaking him harder. "please.."
Your voice starts to tremble and tears pour out of your eyes. You start to shake him again before Hawk grabs your arms and pulls you from under him. You fall into his embrace and your head slides down his chest.
"please.." you quietly sob
Hawks head drops touching the top of yours.
Police and EMTs burst through the front doors. They swarm Miguel and take him away on a stretcher.
Two police officers help you up and sit you on a bench.
"Ma'am. Are you injured?" One of them asks
You shake your head no and they return to the group of others.
Hawk sees Sam standing by the staircase.
"Tell your boyfriend when i see him, he's fucking dead" Hawk screams to her
She runs away crying.
The rest of the afternoon was a blur. Your mom picked you up and took you home.
You lay on your bed, memories flooding through your mind. You see Miguel fall. You hear the crack of his bones against the staircase. You hear your voice screaming at him to wake up.
Your phone lights up.

hawk: he's in the ICU, in a coma but he's alive.

A feeling of relief courses through your body.
The first friend you ever made in this shitty town is in critical condition in the fucking ICU, but he's alive. You close your heavy eyes and eventually you drift to sleep.
When you wake up you text Hawk back.

you: you know who did it? sam's boyfriend? who even is he?
hawk: Robby Keene. Him and Sam starting going out after her and Miguel broke up.
you: when can we see him?
hawk: they say it'll be a few days
you: are you okay?
hawk: i will be. you?
you: i will be.
