The sun hung warm and large over Jerico. Summer at Nevermore Academy meant not only that school was out, but also that students could go home for the week. Back to their families, relatives or friends.
To enjoy the hot days there and to switch off. But there were also the students of the Academy who could not go home either because they did not want to, could or simply wanted to stay here with their friends. This was also true for Y/n who just didn't want to go home because her parents both had to work full time and since she had no siblings she would only stay home alone. So it came that she also stayed her second summer at the Academy.
In her room dressed in a light top and a skirt she grabbed her book which she had bought to read during the vacations before grabbing her simple straw hat and stepping outside.A smile played around her lips as she looked forward to the beach day. But most of all she was looking forward to her book and the sun. It should be a relaxed day but should it really come so? She walked the path across the yard, the small path across the meadow before she arrived at the stone sand beach.
To her reassurance she was not the only one who went to the beach. She soon found the sirens in the water, along with a few new faces and old ones. The sirens as she found the most beautiful of all creatures if one could say so. But even if everyone knew the prejudices against them, she had never believed in them. Could something so beautiful be so vicious?
Shaking her head, she turned back to her book, which she left sitting on one of the benches on the beach. Her gaze passed a few moments over the words and phrases, taking in the adventures and losing herself in them. Before she heard footsteps, which meant that someone new was coming to the beach. When she looked up, she saw the most famous student of Nevermore Academy. Bianca Barclay. The beautiful siren who was not only the best in the fencing team but also always won the cannon races. She seemed perfect. ,,Hello Bianca" she said hastily, peeking out from under her straw hat. Before she saw the pretty impressive siren. ,,I didn't know you would be here again this year," she said, a smile showing her gleaming white teeth.
The other one closed her book and put it aside. ,,Yes, my parents have to work again...yours too?" she asked and briefly saw how the siren didn't seem to like the question. ,,You could say that. Would you like to come and swim with us?" she asked, pointing to her group of friends waiting for her in the water. Discomfort spread through the other.
Swimming was something she didn't like at all. ,,Well, this might be a little embarrassing, but I...can't swim," she admitted, seeing the surprised expression in the mermaid's blue eyes. ,,Are you serious?" she asked, slightly unsure, but when she saw the small nod, her gaze softened. She seemed to think for a moment. ,,Do you have a bikini or swimsuit I could teach you?" she suggested and seemed to be almost on the way into the water. ,,Oh, thank you very much, I'll just put it on" said the non-siren hastily and ran back to her room to change into a bikini top and swim shorts.
Not too short to freeze completely in the water but also not too long to feel disturbed in any way. Hurrying back to the beach with a towel she put it on the bench and slowly walked towards Bianca. The siren was already standing waist deep in the water and she saw the bluish tyrkiy scales on her hand and arms. Beautiful she thought and felt her heart beat faster at the sight.
It was simply beautiful and fascinating to watch how the sirens seemed to rise in the water. ,,Are you alright? Or should I help you?" the siren asked, but stopped when the other one came to her and clung to Bianca. ,,I think I'm okay now," said Y/n, smiling slightly. ,,Is it okay if we go in a little deeper, then we could start with the legs?" she asked suggestively and hesitantly the other nodded. The other sirens had already disappeared into the waters, but they all kept a watchful eye on the non-swimmer. ,,Is it safe?" she asked, clinging almost convulsively to Bianca.
The black-haired smiled and her hands held the hands of the other. The grip was firm but not painful, rather loving and gentle. ,,Don't worry, I've got you, just try leaning forward and trampling your legs around" she instructed and slightly unsure Y/n did as she was advised.
Insecurely she leaned forward and felt how the water held her. However, she also swayed slightly but Bianca held her firmly. ,,And here we go," said the siren and slowly went backwards. The non-siren slightly tightened her legs and understood what Bianca meant by swimming.
It was a first simple movement and yet she knew that soon she would have to use her arms. After swimming a few laps they stopped again. ,,That was good," the siren praised and Y/n felt a smile creep onto her face. ,,Thank you" she said and seemed to be waiting for the next instructions. ,,Now try to move your arms like this," she said, imitating the movements of the breaststroke. It takes a short moment of overcoming before Y/n tries it himself. It took a little while, but even though it looked a little like she was drinking, she somehow managed to do it.Until they all heard a howl. Werewolves it went through her head before only moments later the group rushed into the lake and jumped. There were only small waves but these were enough to bring the non-siren out of her equilibrium and to be swallowed by the waves.
She wanted to cough and breathe but only water entered her mouth. Panic rose in her and seeking help she tried to get to the surface. Only when she suddenly felt someone grab her by the waist and move her upwards did she get the air in her lungs.Coughing and slightly disoriented, she looked into the worried blue eyes of Bianca and clung to the siren as if her life depended on it. ,,You saved me," she said and the black-haired woman smiled slightly. ,,Always happy to" she said and slowly let go of the other one. The siren seemed to be as nervous as her friend herself. It wasn't until the other water-bound friends came over to them and made sure the non-water-bound one was okay.
But it was Y/n was fine and even if she was still slightly insecure in the water, the support of Bianca gave her security and safety. But above all, the two felt something the same.
As they held each other's hands, they seemed to feel each other's excited heartbeat. Perhaps water is not so transparent and was a simple transmitter for feelings. Feelings of love perhaps even ?
