"HOLY SHIT! It's Goggles! How the hell does he know we're here?! It can't be! I turned off my phone! Did he-" Rider whispered after backing away.

[Y/N] tried to stay calm. "We need to get out of here - and FAST. He has harmful intentions if he tracked us!"

"We're on the second floor...wait! There's a dumpster! We can jump!" Rider whispered.

[Y/N] shivered. "Okay. Lucky you don't have bones..."

"Cartledge is more fragil- never mind. Let's go!" Rider said.

They made their way to the window and jumped into the cardboard-filled dumpster below. [Y/N] was bent up a little, but for the most part, they were fine, and Rider was fine as well. They tried to start Rider's car, but the wires had been cut. Goggles knew about this.

"Shit! The kid can't even drive and he knows how to make my car stop?!"

They heard footsteps and decided to make a break for it.

They ran through the empty roads with streetlights, with Goggles following behind them, approaching rapidly.

Rider and [Y/N] thought they had found an abandoned building to hide in, and caught their breath. But it wasn't long before Goggles came in looking for them.

Goggles' footsteps seemed to be receding.

Rider attempted to dial 110 (Japanese equivalent of 911), but it was to no avail. He typed in the digits, but his phone imputted random bursts of digits. He thought he had typed it fully, but when he dialed the number and whispered the situation, he heard Goggles' voice on the other end of the line.

"I thought I was the idiot here."

[Y/N] and Rider turned around to see Goggles with a phone in his hand, very close to them.

"Aw, this is sad.."

He knocked [Y/N] unconscious using a pressure point on their neck, applying immense pressure to it.

Rider fled as Goggles tied up [Y/N]. Goggles was actually stronger than Rider, (despite Rider being the strongest member of the cast), so Rider knew well not to take his chances. He fled to Goggles' car's backseat, where he hid.

Goggles later became aware of this as he was driving with [Y/N] in the trunk. Of course, Goggles was swerving and hitting stuff, but they still reached a secluded part on the outskirts of the city.

Rider snuck behind Goggles as he tied [Y/N] to a chair. As Rider stayed hidden with the plans of an attack, [Y/N] woke up.

"Goggles?! What the hell is going on?! Why are you doing this?! All of this?! Help!! Somebody!!"

"Can I explain? You're gonna die anyway, so why not?"

"HUH?! DIE?! NO. NO. NO. I'M NOT READY."

"You shouldn't have bought that game then."

"What game?! Splatoon 3?!"

"No, that's not Splatoon 3. Pirated games aren't real. You should know that."

"M-my dad got it from GameStop! What are you talking about?!"

Goggles sighed. "Guess I have to explain it."

"Nintendo created Splatoon to be a fun game for everyone to enjoy. But apparently, back in 12015- er, 2015, people didn't want to pay 60 dollars for it. So they started copying the code and pirating the game. It really hurt the company. Profits were lost...but then, one brilliant woman named Sankichi Hinodeya partnered with Hisashi Nogami to create me. I am Goggles, the main protagonist of the Coroika manga series in your world. In mine, I was created with one job. To eliminate all threats to the company while making it look like entertainment, so people don't see how ruthless Nogami and Hinodeya are. Now, you may have noticed I don't lose battles. That's because those people that I battle are threats to the company, like hackers and exploiters, so Nintendo wrote me to never lose. It's documented in the manga as innocent battles, but those with said strength are real players who exploit, hack or pirate the game. I was given a story to be the main character of everything, because my job is so important to the company. The lives of the Cast are centered around me. Well, all but one member. Rider. He was created as sort of a fail-safe to aid me. He is the only member of the cast who seems to have gained a third level of self-awareness, which is unprogrammed emotion, which you unlocked in him. You ruined my backup. You managed to break a piece of Nintendo's scheme to eliminate threats. Partly the reason why you're here. Your father is a game pirate and a wanted enemy of Nintendo, and we can't seem to reach him. But when you received a pirated game and accepted it, that gives me reason to kill you. To stop us from losing players and profits. So, in the end, it's sad that you love Coroika and idolize us so much, yet here you are, being punished for the sabotage of Nintendo and the Splatoon franchise. So, in order to do my job, I must eliminate you. You are the threat."

"It's not their fault!" Rider yelled as he attempted to attack Goggles. But it was no use.

Goggles pulled out a gun and pointed it at Rider. "Don't you dare try to interfere!"

"What happened to you?!" Rider pleaded. "You've become this hivemind who pulls a gun on their lover for the sake of the company!!"

"Don't make this harder than it has to be! We both have one job and you failed to do it!" Goggles said, squeezing his grip on the gun tighter.

Rider responded, "I realized how much you changed my life, thanks to [Y/N]. I realized how much I need you! Fuck programming! We don't have to be who some developers tell us to be! Look, I know you don't want to do this. We've built so much together, be it because of writing or because of fate, and I don't wanna lose that! I don't wanna lose you! You're the one that pantsed me and changed my life that day 7 years ago. You're the one I want. Not some...murderer!"

"I don't have a choice."

"You can think and feel, right?! Then, yes! You have a choice! You can choose to put down the gun, forget this all happened, let [Y/N] go and we can go back to the way things were!"

"I wish it was that simple...I have to do a job. You of all people know that. That's what we were created for. To entertain humans, and to protect the software. You and me.

"GOGGLES! Listen! Just listen to me! I hate seeing you like this, being controlled by a team of developers! Let go of all of that and we can live our lives the way Inklings do! Having fun and making the most of every minute! Living the true dreams instilled in us by our forefathers to seek action and thrill! You don't have to work for Nintendo and kill people doing so! Our lives mean more than just programming, we're meant to be chaotic, messy, weird, exciting and fun! I want to do all of that with you. You're the one that showed me a new life when I had none."

"Quit saying such things!"

Rider's eyes welled up with tears. "I fucking love you! You're everything to me! And I don't care about a damn company if it means I get to spend the rest of my life with you! I don't care if every day is just another battle. As long as you and your team are there," he paused, tears falling from his eyes, "wins and losses don't matter! You all give my life meaning!"

Silence.

Goggles stood solemnly,

raised the gun,

and pulled the trigger.
