chapter thirty seven, pick him

Chris was the one behind the wheel when Matt exited the airport. He wasn't sure if either of his brothers were suitable candidates to drive him to the concert because they only had their learners license. Why didn't they get Finn to pick him up?

Maybe the lack of road safety was what was going to get Matt to Felicity on time.

"Buckle up." Chris cautioned Matt.

"Wait, I could've just driven us—" Matt huffed while Chris made the sharpest turn back onto the road.

"Cause there's no parking there, duh. Now shut up and think about what you're going to say to her."

Matt was blessed he arrived intact. Not only did Chris have to dodge New York traffic, he also had to figure out how the fuck to get around the city. New York lied, the grid system isn't easy.

After dropping Matt off at the lobby, okay dropping him off made it seem a lot gentler than it was. Because they couldn't park the car for Matt to get off, Chris had to slow the car down as much as he could so Matt could jump out.

"I can't let you through here. Concert has already started." The guard stepped in front of Matt.

"I'm with Felicity."

"Do you know how many times I've heard that? Doesn't work, sorry kid. Should've showed up earlier."

Matt reached into his pocket to call Juliette for help and cursed at himself when he was met with nothing. Of course today was the day he'd leave his phone in the car.

"Matt, you're just on time!" Finn peeked out past the doors.

"FINN! TELL HIM YOU KNOW ME!" The guard looked over at Finn with a suspicious look but allowed Matt past the doors.

"She's halfway through her last song so get to the front and she'll see you." Finn advised over the cheers from the crowd and the music blaring from the stage. "The real problem is whether the barricade fans will let you through. I've been to a couple concerts and they might rip an arm off."

He gulped and nodded, his heart pounding faster the closer they got to the barricade. Before Matt could speak, a fan, jaw dropped, turned her head and stared at him.

"You're Matt Sturniolo."

"Hi, yes that's me! I need your help! I need to talk to Felicity."

"OH MY GOD, ARE THE RUMOURS TRUE?! ARE YOU TWO DATING?!"

"That kinda depends on whether she'll pick me to ask her a question."

She nodded furiously and whispered to the people around her. As the line cleared between the barricade, Matt jumped over and pushed his way to the middle of the crowd.

"NEW YORK! Don't tell Los Angeles but you are by far my favourite city." Felicity praised, earning cheers and screams from the crowd. "Before we end this concert, let's have a chat. Does anyone have a question for me?"

Arms shot up in the crowd around Matt and Felicity picked a random person in the crowd.

"Hi there! Yes you, you with the earrings, which I am obsessed with by the way, what would you like to ask?"

"So your discography is about LA and the guys you've dated have broken your heart, have you ever thought of moving away to another city?"

"I learnt that going to those places and creating new memories certainly helps as someone has showed me before, so LA isn't pure torture to be in. I thought about moving to New York for a while to be closer with someone but plans have changed so Juliette and Finn, you guys are just gonna have to deal with me for a bit longer."

The crowd booed teasingly at Felicity staying in Los Angeles, and she pouted mockingly, ignoring how her heart twinged at the reminder of Matt and how he showed her tainted memories could be cleansed and purified.

"I know, I know. You guys will just have to listen to Brooklyn Baby for a bit longer before I decide on where to live."

Felicity picked another fan in the area, "Hey! The one with the gorgeous ginger hair! What's your question?"

"Hi Felicity! I love you so much."

"Love you too."

"What are you most excited to do on tour?"

"I think just travelling and meeting everyone. I'm touring around the world this time so I can't wait to spend some time away from home. It might be good for me. I might even start to miss California."

"Okay, next question!" Felicity traveled across the stage and picked a fan from the other side. "Hello! I love your makeup by the way, what's on your mind?"

"When you do shows before going on tour, you usually only perform in LA and New York, how come you were at Boston?"

"Um... I love lobster! Anyone here from Boston?!"

The glaring lights made it difficult for Felicity to look at the fans in the middle but judging by the waving hands pointing at the blurred figure and everyone shouting 'pick him! pick him!', Felicity made her way to the centre.

Failing at blocking the lights from her eyes, Felicity leaned closer to the crowd. Still no luck with seeing the lucky fan who got the crowd to support him.

"I can't really see you with all these lights but go ahead, ask away!"

"Your songs are written about your exes who have treated you horribly, but what would it take for you to forgive them?"
