Luz woke up early to the sound of her mother downstairs. Drat, she thought. I won't be able to get back to sleep now.. oh, I suppose I'll just head downstairs. With that, she took of her pajamas, set them aside, and donned the clothing she had prepared for that day. I guess I'll go downstairs now-- the girl's thought train was interrupted by the sound of a large (or at least Luz thought it was large as it made a very loud noise) pot clattering to the floor, and her mother muttering curses under her breath. Or maybe I'll wait a bit.. Luz thought with a shudder. Everyone in their right mind knew not to make Camila upset.
Luz decided to wait a bit--it was early, after all, and she didn't want to face her angry mother--and pass the time. She picked up The Good Witch Azura, volume two. It was a random choice from the quintet of books, but Luz was glad she had chosen this one. The second volume was eventful and exciting. She opened it up and started to read.

Meanwhile, Amity was thinking deeply--or really overthinking at this point--about her current dilemma. I mean, it's best to do what my mother says, who knows what she could do to me if I defied her orders? But.. I want to be wed to the RIGHT person, when I'M ready. Fifteen is much too early.. at this point, the young princess started talking aloud about what her ideal partner would be like. "They'd be witty, and clever, and inventive, and creative.." her eyes fell on the stack of books positioned at the very front of her large bookshelf made of dark wood. "Oh, and they'd share my love of Azura, of course!" Amity began to imagine herself and her partner discussing the iconic series, and sighed happily. She would have dived deeper into her thoughts if she wasn't interrupted by a loud snicker that arose from beneath her bed.
"Ed! You were supposed to stay quiet!!" someone squealed. "ED?! EM?!" Amity yelled. "Uhh.." she did it so fast that Amity wasn't sure if she saw correctly, but Emira definitely slipped something into her pocket. "Did you get it?" Edric murmured. "SHHHH!!" his twin sister whispered, but then met his gaze and gave him a discreet nod. "You were RECORDING this WHOLE TIME??" Amity shrieked while her face flushed scarlet. Although her older siblings had done much worse to prank her over the years, the princess was still embarrassed that her siblings had recorded her obsessing over an imaginary partner, AND did so that easily. Why didn't I notice them? They're not THAT good at hiding.. "Illusions," Emira started, as if she had read Amity's thoughts, "work very well when you're trying to hide from your little sister." Amity scowled and started after her siblings. They shrieked as she got closer and closer to them, darting through hallway after hallway--then stopped abruptly. Amity was about to question why, but then she looked up and realized why they were practically cowering in fear--it was their mother.

It was quiet now. I guess Mami's calmed down a bit.. Luz thought. She was about two-thirds through Azura at this point, but she slipped a bookmark between the pages and laid the book on her bed. She'd finish it later. She decided to greet her mother.
When Luz made it down the smooth stairs, her socks sliding across the bottom one, her mother looked up in response to the sound. She looked up at her daughter and said, "Buenos dias, Luz!" when she had finished speaking, her mouth curled into a warm smile. Luz struggled to achieved balance on the lowest step, but when she had accomplished her goal, she smiled back at her mother--the same glowing grin. Camila adjusted the positions of the pots and pans a bit, then set breakfast on the table. While Luz took her time, savoring the meal, her mom ate quickly, as if nervous. Luz noticed this, and stopped eating. She set her fork down. "¿Mamá? ¿Estás bien?"
(Translation: Mom? Are you okay?)
Luz's mother smiled, but not in the same comforting way she'd smiled to start off the morning. It was more.. tense. "Yes, Luz, I'm alright. I just.." Luz cut her off. "No, Mami. Tell me if something's upsetting you. Whatever it is, I can take it." Camila sighed. "Alright," she said weakly. "Then, if that's settled... we need to talk."

"What are you doing?" Odalia said in a harsh tone. The twins smiled sheepishly, and Amity grimaced in fear. "Uh.. h-hi, mother--" Emira started. "Actually, I don't want to hear it," Odalia interrupted, leaving Emira to slink back due to nervousness. "Whatever you were doing was completely unproductive and therefore useless. I don't want to catch you.." the queen replayed the moment in her head, "chasing each other around the castle again. Do you understand?" the children nodded immediately after, none of them saying a word. "Alright, I'm glad we had this little.. talk," Odalia finished.. or at least the kids thought she did, because then she added, "a punishment will most likely be decided later. Goodbye now," with that, she turned on her heel and left, with Edric scowling, Emira rolling her eyes, and Amity close to tears.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Um, okay.. what would you like to talk about?" Luz let a small smile be plastered onto her face, but it hid nervousness. She felt like her mother could say literally anything! But.. it was probably fine. Her mother would never do anything to upset her--at least, not on purpose--without reason. "Well... I got a better job!" Camila started, to which Luz replied "That's amazing! I can't believe it!" The girl's smile grew, although according to the look on her mother's face, she had more to say. "Um, as you know, I have veterinary experience," Camila began again, "and the queen and king are much too busy to have time for tasks like taking care of animals, specifically horses." Luz could agree to that. "Yeah, I kno--wait, the QUEEN AND KING?" "Y-yes, that was what I wanted to talk to you about.." her mother continued, her face plastered with an expression of discomfort and nervousness. "I got a job working for the queen and king.. they've heard of my work, and seemed quite impressed--well, impressed enough. There are plenty of people waiting to take my place at my former workplace, and this new job will pay very well. We will also be given a big house--" "A big house.. wait, you don't mean--" "Yes. In order to be closer to the castle, we'll be moving across town."
Luz was shocked. And upset. She'd lived by the woods her entire life, and she loved it. It was her favorite place in the entire world, even if it was one of the only places she'd ever been. But she knew not to complain, not to press, not to argue. This was best for her family, and she was sure everything would turn out alright. But she also knew it would take her a while to adjust.. she'd miss the woods a lot. But there was a third thing, a thing Luz didn't know. This move would change her entire life. She'd meet new people.. and maybe even someone special.
