Hi! I'm Bat. That's not my real name, but everyone calls me it because I have a bat tattoo on my wrist. One of my friends said it once and it just stuck.

I'm starting high school today. The one I'm going to is pretty popular, but none of my friends are going there. It's called High School. It's amazing to try and understand how they named it. Very inspirational. Anyways, I got into my uniform, which is just a polo and dress pants. Really comfortable. I had toast with my dad and then he drove me to school.

"Good luck! And don't kiss boys or do drugs!" He said as he dropped me off. Why would I do either of those...

I got to my homeroom class and sat in my assigned seat. It was in the back right corner, and the seat next to me was empty. A few seconds before the bell rang, a boy came hurrying in. "You must be C." Mr. Gropius, our homeroom teacher, said. The boy nodded. "Great! Then you can take a seat right there next to... Bat. Bat, please raise your hand so C can see where he has to sit. Get it? C and s-" Thank God the bell rang and interrupted him.

As announcements were happening, C said hi to me. "Soo, your name is Bat? Like the Animal?"
"And your name is C? Like the letter?" I said back to him. He laughed. Well, it was more like a giggle.

Our first class was together and it was science. We had to choose lab partners and he asked to be mine. "Sure. I mean, you don't seem like a bad guy." I said. "That's the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me," C said, wiping away a tear from his eye.

I was trying to focus on the lesson, but C is very talkative. When he wasn't talking to me, he was introducing himself to those around us. Somehow, at the end of class, everyone knew who he was. That's our only class together.

"Hey, Bat, wait up!" I turned to see C walking towards me. It was the end of the day and I was trying to go home. "What's up?" I said. At least I made one friend today. "I was wondering if I could get your number. As a friend, but you're really cool." I'm not cool, this kid is delusional. I gave it to him, though. At the end of the day, one friend is better than none.
