the bengals take on the jets today, which happens to be the same team that c.j. uzomah went to after he left the bengals last year.
this week was going to go by in a flash, they play again on thursday. they play today, have practice monday, tuesday, and wednesday.
they have no days off this week, but luckily, they have a mini bye week afterwards. "marley, come give the pre-game speech." zach said motioning for her to join them in the locker room.
this was an away game, so of course it looked like a shed instead of a locker room.
"remember what i said last week." marley said. "they have to play us. we have a busy week ahead of us, so go out there and get the win." she said.
"win on three." marley said. "one, two, three."
"win." they all said in unison.
marley and the other coaches watched the players come out, they didn't have introductions since it was an away game.
they were able to put a date on it, and would start running marley's plays in game after their halloween game against cleveland.
despite the penalties, the first drive was very successful for the bengals, it resulted in a touchdown.
the jets drive ended in a field goal. the bengals offense was back on the field. jamar fumbled the ball and the jets recovered it, in cinci territory.
luckily, defense was able to hold them to just a field goal. unlike the last drive, the next one was amazing for cinci.
the drive was only five plays and ended in a touchdown. the team was in a great spot at halftime.
the game ended 27-12. the bengals won, marley shook hands and walked over to c.j.
"great game, c.j." marley said. "it's great to see you again."
"why are you talking to me?" c.j. asked making a face of disgust.
"we were on the same team last year, c.j." marley said.
"you're a girl. leave me alone." c.j. said. "you're not even a good coach.
"we went to the super bowl last year. i think i know what i'm doing." marley said.
"do you want me to remind you of how that game turned out?" c.j. asked.
"what's your problem?" marley asked.
"girls don't belong in the nfl. that's my problem. leave it to the guys who actually know what they're doing." c.j. said, she pushed marley back.
she stumbled back a bit, but regained balance. nothing could happen now, the game was over.
sam was quick to intervene. "what are you doing c.j.?" sam asked, although it didn't sound like a question.
"move." c.j. said pushing sam back. considering how tall sam was, he didn't move.
"what did you push my g- coach for?" sam said, quickly correcting himself.
"she's a girl. she doesn't belong in the nfl. you're brainwashed." c.j. said.
"okay, we're done here." sam said shaking his head. him and marley walked back to the locker room.
"are you ok?" sam asked.
"yeah i'm good, thanks." marley said. "i just don't get how he switched up so fast."
"me neither." sam said. "just dismiss it if they ask you about it in the conference."
"mk." marley said sending him a smile before they parted ways. marley watched zach's press conference before she switched spots with him.
"c.j. uzomah," the news reporter spoke. marley knew they would ask about this. "he pushed you back after the game was over, care to comment?"
"no, not really." marley said.
"i know something similar happened like this in week one with t.j. watt, but does this one hurt a little more considering you know him personally?" the reporter asked.
"it's not the first time it happened, and unfortunate it probably won't be my last." marley said.
"what exactly did he say to you?" another reporter asked.
"could we keep it to football questions for now please?" marley asked as nicely as she could.
"do you think you deserve this position? did you have to do a little extra work to get here if you know what i mean." another reporter asked.
"no, i got here fair and square." marley said offendedly. "if it were another coach sitting in here after a game, a male coach. you wouldn't be asking these questions. other coaches gain respect so fast." she said.
"i'm so sick of running as fast as can, wondering if i'd get where quicker if i was a man." marley said.
"are you saying we're misogynistic?" a male reporter asked.
"that's not what i'm saying, i just think the males in the league could easily gain respect faster that i ever could because i am a female." marley said keeping her composure.
"or maybe it's because you just aren't a good coach." a reporter said. "you're an assistant coach, not a head coach. remember that before you boast."
"i never said i was anything more than an assistant coach, and i never boasted." marley said. marley sat there for a second, while they were throwing insults at her.
she got up from the chair and walked out of the room.
she went into the locker room and grabbed her stuff quickly. "mar, you ok?" jamar asked, noticing her grabbing her stuff.
"peachy, jamar. thanks for asking." marley said.
"marley. what's wrong?" jamar asked.
"you wouldn't understand." marley said.
"well then help me understand." jamar said.
"those reporters, they only wanted to talk about what c.j. did and how i didn't deserve to be here and that i did some 'extra work' to get here, inappropriate things implied." marley said.
"mar, i'm so sorry." jamar said hugging the girl.
"haven't i give enough?" marley asked, hugging the boy back.
"yes, marley. you've given it your all which is more than enough. they're just stupid." he said pulling back.
"i'm not doing that press conference." joe said walking over. "i get in there and the first thing they ask me is if you deserve your job. what kind of question is that? i legit walked out."
"joe, you don't have to do that." marley said.
"i already did it." joe said. "it's not a big deal." are you ok?"
"yeah, i'll be fine." marley said.
"who knows what happened?" joe asked.
"just us three." jamar said.
"i don't know if i should tell anyone else." marley said.
"they'll find out eventually, it's better if it comes from you." joe said.
"so i just go up to them and say, 'they don't think i deserve this job and did some sexual acts to get here'." marley said.
"well, yes but no." joe said chuckling.
"we'll help you, mar." jamar said. "we're the rizz masters."
"i don't think any rizz is needed here, sorry. but i will take your help." marley said.
