Did Kenny make it out? A question which daunted on Charlie as, days later, she, Levi and other squads of soldiers were out searching the ruins of the crystal chamber under what used to be the Riess Church. What was left of Kenny's squad was certainly a ratchet sight. Not much left of them. Crushed during the cave in. It became less and less likely that Kenny Ackerman was alive.

"Captain Levi! We found Kenny Ackerman! He's still alive!" A voice yelled through the rumble, making Levi and his sister look up.

They hadn't seen Kenny for years before this whole Military Police thing. They'd heard whispers about him in the capital, but now, after so long, the siblings had questions.

They had found him at under a tree. He was messed up. Broken bones, bleeding and burns where what was left of a barely living Kenny the Ripper.

 "Kenny."

Hearing Levi's voice made the bastard open his eyes and look up. "Oh shit. Not you two again-" Kenny's rasping is cut short when he hacks up blood into his lap.

"Found what was left of your squad. Looks like they were crushed in the cave in." Levi states, staring down at Kenny as his younger stood behind him. Both of them had shot guns in hand, but only Charlie's was raised, aimed down at the Ackerman. "I guess you were the only survivor?"

"Sure looks that way." Kenny's voice was weak, barely above a whisper and it was airy.

There's a long pause of silence before Charlie spoke up. "It's over, you know. Between the burns and the blood you've lost, there's nothing that can save you."

"Oh yeah? I wonder..." Kenny yanked something out of his pocket. It was a small cause which he opened to show a needle and a vile.

sixteen years ago...

"...Kuchel huh?" The man at the desk repeated the name. "Ah-- well, if you mean Olympia... that women's been sick for so long now that even her old regulars quit usin' her." The man was missing many teeth and Kenny Ackerman wondered how many times he'd been punched. But the man gave him her room number and Kenny walked back into the apartment like complex.

The door squeaked open as the man entered, bag in hand. It smelled awful inside that room, like meat had expired and gone bad. In a way, it had.

And yet he walked over to the bed she laid. "Whooh. You look rough. Damn, have you lost some weight? You're like a skeleton." Kenny didn't realize who he was talking to would never answer. "Hey, Kuchel--"
