Light was the first to wake up the next morning. He glanced over at his naked lover lying adjacent to him on the bed. The brunette caressed L's cheek brushing a few stray hairs out of the way.

"The loving beauty of purity and fragility. The qualities most can only acquire during one's rest." Light spoke just above a whisper. "Even in rest I can't hold these qualities... in rest I only show impotence and vulnerability... Kira's the cause of all this..." Light looked at L with love and adoration, no longer feeling the animosity toward the genius as he used to. "Ryuk!" the brunette called out into the room.

"Yes?" The deep scratchy voice answered.

"You know where the death note is right?"

"You told me to lend it to someone while you were living here. I can easily find the person... but only if they owned the death note." the shinigami answered nonchalantly.

"Ryuk... because of that notebook I met this man... I can see though that if I stay Kira then that will just jeopardize what I have with him... I'm at a loss right now... I still want to become god of this new world but... I'm... I thought that if I got close to him like this I would simply act my way to his heart and make him vulnerable... I'm grateful for everything you've done for me,

Ryuk... but I'm afraid I'm going to have to relinquish ownership of the death note." Light was looking teary-eyed at the black haired man beside him, still sleeping soundly on the bed.

"You've gone soft on me, Light! Oh! You're no fun. I guess I'll just have to find something else to do once the new owner gets caught or dies. Well I guess this is goodbye." The shinigami walked closer to Light as he was speaking.

"Ryuk..." the brunette said just before the god of death erased his memory of the notebook. "Thank you for everything. I wouldn't have met him if you hadn't been bored. I hope that in the time you've known me, I've satisfied your boredom. Goodbye... Ryuk..."

With that Light fell back into unconsciousness. With his final tears rolling down Light's cheeks, L leaned up and kissed them away sending a silent thanks into the empty room the brunette was speaking to.
