Muzan's POV;
I sat in my office, carefully focusing on my newest Uppermoon's thoughts. He seemed miserable.
' I hate this! I don't wanna be a demon! This sucks.. I wanna go home. '
" God, does he ever shut up in that head..? " I muttered angrily. It bugged me, but I knew it was going to happen. It was normal for a human to be upset about becoming a demon.
Though I held no feelings such as sympathy or remorse, I understood. I told nobody, but I know how they felt. I'd hated first becoming a demon, too. Sometimes, I still hate it, because I can't go in the sun.
I had to have something to do. My body itched to be doing something other than sit in this damn office. So I stood up and walked out, towards Nakime.
She turned her head upwards, toward me. " Bring Kokushibou here. " I ordered. Nakime complied, playing a couple strings on her biwa.
I narrowed my eyes as Kokushibou appeared. " There you are. Come with me. "
He tipped his head to one side, but followed me without question as I led him into my office. He stood in the doorway while I plopped down once more in my chair.
" What.. did you need... Lord Muzan..? " He asked quietly. I stared at him and locked my hands together, crossing my legs. " It's been a while since we've gone on a hunt together. So.. would you like to go? "
Something in my heart lit up as his face brightened ever so slightly, and his shoulders perked. " It would be.. an honor.. to hunt with you.. again.. Lord Muzan. "
" Right, then. I still don't fully trust Muichirou, but Nakime already set him with Akaza, correct? " I stood up. Kokushibou nodded.
" Alright. Let's go now, then; I can tell it's night by the air. " I began walking towards the door. He stepped out of the way as I opened it, and followed me out. We returned to the platform Nakime sat at. She tilted her head up towards us.
" Town. " I told her, and, gesturing to myself and Kokushibou, I added, " We're going hunting. "
She nodded and played three of the four strings on her biwa in a certain pattern, teleporting us out of the castle and into the forest next to the nearest town.
We began our search after Kokushibou found a way to cover his six eyes. He swept his hair over the top pair, and just threw a mask over the bottom, leaving only the middle two visible. He hid his katana beneath his haori, mentally complaining about how uncomfortable it was for the thing to be poking his side.
' It doesn't hurt, ' He thought, ' it's just annoying and uncomfortable. '
You'll have to deal with it for now. I told him.
With that, he'd sighed but didn't say more as we headed into the town, posing as upperclass commoners. He scouted on the right-hand side while I took the left-hand side. Eventually, we focused on a considerable-sized family.
There were the parents, of course, and then there were the aunts and uncles, then the children and cousins. After a subtle nod to one another, we began stalking the family. They were nothing special, but they were exceptionally healthy-seeming, and they'd make a good feast. Neither of us had eaten well in a long time.
Soon, we were close enough to attack. We nodded once more to each other, then went for the kill. I went after the parents, and he went after the children. The family didn't even have time to scream before they all dropped dead.
" Well done, " I praised Kokushibou. " Thank you.. " He answered. We settled down, sitting on our knees as we grabbed 5 family members each. We began rating, stirring up conversation as we did so.
" How's Muichirou fairing with his new situation ? " I asked. Kokushibou shrugged. " He is.. miserable. He won't.. speak, or.. do anything.. He just.. sits and stares.. at the wall.. or floor.. "
I nodded slowly. " That makes sense. Try offering to turn his breathing style into a Blood Demon Art. That might spark his interest. " I suggested. Kokushibou looked thoughtful. " I'll try.. it might take.. some time.. for him to get... used to it,.. though. . "
" Of course. But it's worth a shot. " I tossed the mother of the family to the side, where I'd put the aunt after eating her. " It is. I think.. it'll help him.. get over this.. becoming a demon.. " Kokushibou finished off the uncle and threw him in his own pile with the father.
It was silent for a while after that. Then, as we were onto eating the final members of the family, I asked another question. " Remember that uh... that day? " I asked, sending him a mental image of what I meant. His cheeks went a soft pink color and he nodded, hyperfixating his eyes on his food.
" Yeah, what the Hell was that about? " I demanded, staring at him. He looked up at me finally, apology brimming in his eyes. " I noticed.. you were upset,.. and I wanted.. to help... sorry.. "
I narrowed my eyes. " Sorry for what? It was rather helpful. You managed to calm me down. " Slight warmth crept onto my face as I admitted this. " You did help. So.. " I hesitated. " Thank you, Kokushibou. "
Uppermoon One shifted on his knees as if he didn't know how to reply. " You're.. welcome. . "
" I want you to do that again. If I ever seem to be stressing myself out, do that. " I ordered. He nodded, the rosy pink on his cheeks going red. " Okay. "
