Even with a fight, there's still 30 more minutes of the school day. Ms. Cristobal continues droning on about derivatives as the personification of all my worries and desires walks into the room.

"Brooks, are you ok?" I ask the 6'1 frame in front of me. He looks me up and down with a look close to disgust.

"Yeah I'm fine, worry about yourself" he dismissed walking to the back of the class.

Um a little harsh, Conway. What was that about?

My eyes follow him until he finally sits in his chair. He slumps into his seat, taking up his entire desk space with his huge build. We lock eyes for a split second before I turn back around to face the board. But even in a short time gazing into his eyes, I knew he was upset. Upset at me.

I should've known he'd be mad at me for the fight. Is he though? He said he was fine. He said he didn't care. He said it was alright. 'Don't worry about me, I'm ok' replays in my head as I ponder why Brooks was disgusted by me all of a sudden. What did Silva say to him? Did Dean try something else? Does he blame me for the fight? Does he hate me? No, he couldn't. Right?

"Okay, class see you guys next time. Make sure to finish what we worked on and please no more fights for the rest of the school year" Mrs. Cristobal stated shooting her eyes toward Brooks and Dean at the last part of her sentence.

Dean came back a little while after Brooks and I did. But when he walked in, the whole room shifted. The tension between the two of them felt like a jolt of lightning, just zapping me with guilt for the rest of the class.

Thank God it's over.

The bell signifying the end of the day rang as students began making their way home. After walking out of Calculus I started making my way to the office where I would wait for my mom to pick me up. In class she texted me that she needed help with picking flowers for some of the upcoming leipoʻo orders, so off to Safeway we go.

Passing through the halls I noticed a colorful paper on a bulletin board outside of one of the music classes. Stopping in front of it, I began to read:

JOIN THE GLEE CLUB TODAY!!
LOVE TO SING OR PLAY INSTRUMENTS?
SIGN UP BELOW
REHEARSALS EVERY TUESDAY AND
THURSDAY AFTER SCHOOL!!

I read the rest of it and their first rehearsal is tomorrow. I also discovered that Glee Club does covers of popular songs and they compete in the annual California Glee Fest in March. I've always loved to sing but never really did it in front of anyone. But now, I really wanna try. I'm tired of being afraid of doing the one thing that I really love to do. Quickly, I grabbed the pen that was attached to the paper and wrote my name and number in one of the rows. Looking at what I just did, my heart races with excitement about what's to come.
