The weather was still holding, and with nothing but time on his hands, Phalen decided he'd head over to Father Tom's shelter for boys. If the boy Tom kicked out was that angry, Phalen worried he'd come back to make more trouble.
One burned building should be enough for anyone, but Phalen had known some pretty bad characters that wouldn't stop until they drew blood. Tom worked with this type, too. These boys were street-hardened, and Phalen knew they were as cunning and as smart as adult criminals twice their age.
He felt a twinge of guilt, but Phalen was not willing to let prayer be the only shield of protection against some hell-bent arsonist. Since he had a couple more days off, Phalen decided he'd keep an eye out at the boys' home, tonight. It would only mean a lost night's sleep.
But Phalen knew he'd lost sleep over many things much less important.
