As Griffin Campbell walked into the Sulphur Springs high school cafeteria, he felt all eyes look his way and that instantly made him feel uncomfortable. He only had people stare at him three times in his life and he didn't like it each time. First time people stared at him was on his first day of middle school when everyone found out he lived at The Tremont hotel, which was supposedly haunted by the ghost of a kid named Savannah. Second time was....probably one of the most embarrassing days of his life, so I'm just not gonna mention it. And the third time was right here, right now. He didn't like it when people stared at him. It made him feel like people were judging him, and based on the way he was seeing some of the popular kids whispering to each other, people were, in fact, judging him. But he only wore his Wonder Woman speedo over his pants to school one time, seven months ago!!! Why was it still a big deal to this day? Regardless, Griffin just did his best to ignore all the stares and whispers as went to go sit down with his various friends. But as soon as he sat down, Emily Calhoun, a girl from the influencers clique, walked over to where Griffin was sitting and kissed him on the cheek before blushing furiously and walking away, seriously confusing Griffin and more whispers to start and Harper Dunn, a girl from Griffin's art class who he had a massive crush on, to get up suddenly and bolt out of the cafeteria, crying. Almost immediately after that all happened, Griffin looked over to his best friend, Noah Gordon, who shot him a look of we need to talk before he pointed to the wall over near the south cafeteria entrance/exit and he and Griffin got up to go talk. "Alright, dude. Spill it. Why did Emily just get up and kiss me like she was Judas Iscariot and I was Jesus?" asked Griffin, frustrated. "Well, here's the thing:Someone may or may not have spread a rumor around the school saying that you liked Emily." said Noah sheepishly as he looked down at his feet to avoid facing Griffin's annoyed wrath. "What?! Now that's just a buncha bull. Aside from that one time back in freshman year when her and I were partnered up for that one project in science class, Emily and I haven't even spoke to each other, let alone hang out together. She's one of this schools top influencers and I'm just Mr. Oliver's top star in music class. There's no way we're compatible." said Griffin, even more annoyed and frustrated than before. "That's what I said." said Noah, exasperatedly as he attempted to calm down his best friend. "Besides, why would I be crushing on Emily when I already have a crush on, well, you know...." said Griffin, turning beet red as he looked down at his feet, unable to finish his sentence. "Harper." said Noah flatly. "Yea. Exactly. But I think seeing Emily kiss me finally confirmed that feeling in my gut that she also had a crush on me." said Griffin hopefully. "Yea, well, dude, in case you forgot, she ran right out of the cafeteria as soon as Emily kissed you so you can just forget about getting together with Harper." said Noah bluntly with a nonchalant shrug. "Not helping. Besides, lunch is almost over so we should probably finish eating." said Griffin disappointedly as he and Noah went back to their table. However, as soon as they sat down, Griffin heard more whispers going around and Emily constantly looking at him and then blushing furiously and turning away as soon he looked back at her, which only creeped him out even more and made him feel extremely uncomfortable. But the last straw was when he made the dumb move of looking over at where Emily and her influencer friends were sitting out the corner of his eye and saw Emily get up and come his way with a small bouquet of yellow daisies, freaking him out so much so that he reached over the table, grabbed Noah's hand and bolted out of the cafeteria before things really got out of hand for him. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Later that afternoon near the end of the school day, Griffin and Noah were standing at his locker, talking about nothing in particular as Griffin loaded up his backpack with his homework for the day when Emily walked up to him. "Hey, can we talk for a minute?" asked the girl sweetly right as Griffin slammed his locker shut and looked over Emily's shoulder and saw Harper standing at her locker a few feet away from where he, Noah and Emily were standing and staring at them, watching curiously. "Not right now, Emily." said Griffin flatly as he began to walk towards Harper, who had begun to walk to the front entrance of the school and tell her that the rumor wasn't true and that he liked her, not Emily before he felt a hand on his shoulder and saw Emily looking at him, a mix of confusion, anger and small hopefulness on her face. "I know why you'd ignored me earlier at lunch. And I'd just like to say, I like you too. A lot." said Emily, almost flirtatiously before Griffin pushed her away. "Sorry, Emily. But I have my sights set on someone else. Someone way more worth my time." said Griffin determinedly as he ran to catch up with Harper. "Harper, wait up!!!" called Griffin, halfway out of breath as he finally caught up to his crush. "Griffin, I understand. And you and Emily have nothing but my complete support. Now, if you'll excuse me, my mom is almost here to pick me up." said Harper sadly as she turned around to avoid looking at Griffin, her crush, as she'd found out he liked someone else. "But that's just it, Harper. I don't like Emily. It was just a stupid rumor. Besides, she's way out of my league for one thing. And for another, I like someone else." said Griffin hopefully. Upon hearing that, Harper turned back around to face Griffin slowly. "Really. Who?"asked Harper curiously. "I'll give you three hints:One, she's super cute and funny. Two, she doesn't care what others think of her. And three, she's standing right in front of me. Harper.....I like you." said Griffin simply. "Griffin...." Harper said, smiling as Griffin pulled her in close for a hug. "Just for the record, I like you too." said Harper as she leaned in and kissed Griffin passionately, causing Emily to erupt into a hissy, screeching fit. "So then, would you like to be my girlfriend, Harper? I've always wanted to go that new Italian restaurant that opened up on the other side of town." said Griffin excitedly. Harper answered with a small nod and another kiss before her phone went off. "Oh, that's my mom. I gotta go. See you tomorrow, boyfriend!!!" called Harper happily as she practically skipped out the door to where her mom was waiting. "Boyfriend? I could get used to this." said Griffin contently as he walked back to his locker where Noah was waiting. "What did I do?" asked Griffin when he saw Noah smirking at him. "Dude, you just got yourself a girlfriend AND your first kiss all in the same day. You the man!!!" said Noah excitedly as he grinned from ear to ear. "Yeah, and I managed to piss off Emily too. Everything's coming up Griffin!!!" exclaimed Griffin happily. "Plus, now that means you and Harper can go on a double date with me and Avery." said Noah, mentioning his girlfriend of three years." said Noah, mentioning his girlfriend of three years. "Woah there, cowboy. Can we hold off on double dates until after Harper and I have gone on a few by ourselves?" asked Griffin as he and Noah went outside to wait for their parents to pick them up. "Yeah. You're right. But hey, look at this way. Now, you won't be alone for once when the Spring Formal gets here." said Noah hopefully. "Fair point." said Griffin as his dad pulled up to the front of the school in his black pickup truck. "Oh, that's my dad. I gotta go. See ya, dude!" called Griffin as he climbed in the truck before his dad drove off. "So, Griff. How was school today?" asked Griffin's dad, Ben, shortly after they were a bit past the school. "It was good. I got myself a girlfriend today." said Griffin sheepishly as he blushed like crazy. "Oh, that's good that you----WAIT, WHAT?!" asked Ben as the realization hit him right as he was about to turn on the road that led to The Tremont. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sorry about the crappy ending you guys.
