It's hard living a normal life, when nothing about my life is normal. I live with my foster parents in a small town outside of Georgia. It is a very nice town. I don't like it very much though. I feel as if i don't belong here. Ever since i was little, i always felt out of place in this town. The only thing that made it worth it was my best friend Damien.

We have been best friends for as long as i can remember. He has been there for me and i can always count on him.

Today is my sixteenth birthday. I heard that at this age, things start to change. You find love, and you start to see truth in everything. I think that's a bunch of nonsense. I mean me falling in love, that will never happen. Who would fall in love with me. I'm not beautiful compared to other girls. I'm average. I heard some people say i'm beautiful, but i guess they were just trying to be nice.

I sit on my bed staring up at the ceiling. My foster parents never celebrate my birthday. They treat it like any normal day. Sure they are a little nicer than usual on my birthday and they buy me a cupcake but that's it. No presents, No party, No nothing. I'm actually fine with it. Me and Damien have our own little birthday tradition. We stay up late and have a movie marathon until we pass out.

This year, Damien said we should do something different. I personally don't care what we do. As long as i don't get in trouble. I can't be placed in another home. This is my third home in the last year. Either way each home is the same. The parents don't like me, they don't celebrate my birthday, they just don't care for me at all.

All they do is feed me, send me to school, and act like i'm not even there. Damien has followed me to every single home i've been put in. He dosen't really have parents. He has been on his own since he was a baby. I wonder does he ever think about his birth parents. I always think about mine.

Like how could they leave their daughter? Did they want me? Well i never will get the answers. I spent the last four years looking for my parents. I kept looking, but i always ended up in a dead end.

I start to listen to my ipod then i heard a tap on my window. I get up and walk over. It was Damien.

"Hey birthday girl." he said

I will never get over how good looking Damien is. Makes me wonder what a handsome guy like him is doing hanging out with an average girl like me. He was tall and muscular. He had dark brown hair and green eyes. His skin was tanned and he had a tattoo of a sword & shield on his right shoulder.

"Hey." i said.

"What are you doing being here by yourself? Come on i have a surprise for you."

"What ever it is i don't want it. Let's just stay here and watch movies like always."

"No! It's your birthday. Your sixteenth birthday. We are doing something different this year and i mean it. Now come on."

I had to think to myself for a moment. Whatever it is, i don't want to go in my jeans and t-shirt.

"Give me a second to change. Wait outside i'll be out in a minute."

"Now that's more like it."

He jumped out the window and i closed it shut. I ran into my closet and pulled out my lilac off the shoulder blouse and blue skinny jeans. i choose to wear my white flats. After i changed i tied my hair up into a high ponytail. I took a good look in the mirror at myself.

My straight dark brown hair pulled up, my skinny body with small curves, my tanned skin, and my brown eyes. Yep, i look average. I grabbed my phone and headphones and headed downstairs to meet Damien.

When i stepped outside, Damien's eyes practically popped out of his head.

"Wow you look gorgeous!"

"Your just saying that."

"No i mean it. You look beautiful. Now come on."

We walked about two miles to the nearest bus station. When the bus arrived we rode into another town where hardly anybody lived.

"Where are we?" i asked.

"We are where your surprise is."

I hate it when he doesn't ell me something or holds something over my head. It could get really annoying sometimes. We walked another mile to a forest that was very beautiful. It was clear and had a small pond.

"Suprise!"

"This is my suprise?"

"Well not all of it."

He went behind a tree and pulled out a picnic basket. Inside was a blanket and some of my favorite foods. He set up the blanket and we sat and ate. We talked, we laughed, we even joked around a little. Then he pulled out a cupcake. It was vanilla with white icing. He also pulled out a candle and lighter.

"Make a wish."

I closed my eyes and thought long and hard. There was only one wish i had want to wish for.

"I wish i knew the truth about everything in my life and that i knew where i belonged."

I blew out the candle and everything was silent. I opened my eyes and saw Damien.

"Your wish is my command. Princess."

"W-What?"

All of sudden there was a huge gush of wind and i started to feel very cold. I started to get sleepy and then all i could see was darkness.

When i opened my eyes.... I was no longer in the forest.
