"Do you have somewhere to be?" I noticed Draco looking at his phone, checking the time.I couldn't help but be disappointed. It was nice here.
"Hm?" Draco asked, raising his head from his phone.
"Oh, yes. I'm supposed to go to Izaak's. His girlfriend's birthday party is tonight."
"Ah." I said, nodding.
I didn't want to leave, but without Draco's car, I'd have to walk for an hour, if not more.
"Would you like to come?" Draco's question surprised me, but I realised he probably didn't want me at home alone again.
"I doubt Izaak will want me there." I told him, and when he looked confused, I clarified.
"Because of yesterday." I wish I could say I didn't remember ripping my clothes off in front of Draco's friends and yelling at them to look at me, but I do.
Vividly.
"Don't be worried about that. I just told them that you were sleep deprived." Draco explained, though his eyes darted to the left, making me suspect he wasn't telling the truth.
"I'm not familiar with his girlfriend. Draco, I'll be fine at home. You don't have to be worried about me. I don't need the services of a babysitter." As I wrapped my arms around my chest, I said.
"Angeline, I want you there. That is why I am inviting you." Draco informed me, and this time he appeared to be telling the truth.
I considered my options. I'd go home if I had my pills. I would go back home and sleep. But I don't, so I would go home and stare blankly at the TV screen, waiting for my father to arrive while being paranoid.
"Okay." I eventually agreed.
"Yeah?" I couldn't help but smile when Draco asked, and his mouth broke into the biggest smile I'd ever seen him make.
I simply couldn't. The corners of my mouth twitched upwards.
Draco's eyes widened.
"You gave me a smile." I'm not sure what made me think he was surprised.
But, on the other hand, it might have been the worst excuse for a smile, and nowhere near as lovely as his, but he was correct. I did crack a smile. Sober.
As we were driving back to the city in Draco's car, he handed me his phone.
"You make the choice." I took the phone from him, surprised at his willingness to give up control of the music.
Most of the guys I hung out with were total control freaks when it came to it. But I'm realising that Draco wasn't like most guys.
I scrolled through his open playlist, recognising one of the songs and pressing play. It was on the Boston playlist Draco had created for me.
"Do you ever consider leaving this place? Starting from scratch?" Draco questioned, and it didn't take a genius to conclude that he was referring to the lyrics.
I didn't even have to think about it.
"No." Draco seemed pleased, as if I had correctly answered a question on his 'How Depressed is Angeline.' questionnaire.
I almost felt bad for finishing my thought. Almost.
"People are probably just as bad everywhere else, so there's no point." I was looking out the window as I said it, so I couldn't see his face, but the long silence that filled the car said it all.
As we approached a street lined with cookie-cutter suburban houses, my anxiety level began to rise. They weren't as big or as fancy as Draco's or even my house, but they were adequate. From the lines of cars in the driveway, I knew which one was Izaak's.
