LESLIE POV

Darkness swept around me as I staggered to my feet. It pressed me from all directions, smothering me as I let out a shrill scream. Claws ripped into the flesh of my arms as I struggled to pull away I saw my blood drip to the ground beneath my feet as my ability to fight it lessened and the darkness began to win. The panic sank in as my breathe came in smaller gasps and the darkness succeeded in snubbing me out. Then I was no longer a part of the world but beneath it, under the ground.

..........

"Les...Les...wake up...you're dreaming again. Startled out of the nightmare I jerked awake as Sandy's hand brushed against my forehead. Brushing  his hand aside I shuddered as I sat up. His brown eyes were narrowed with concern as I glanced to my left to look at my Mickey mouse clock and saw it was midnight. I awaken the same time after every nightmare. Pushing my white-blond hair away from my face I sighed.

"I can never overcome it. I did like you said and tried to change the dream but I always die. I just can't beat it...I'm sorry I woke you."

Standing there with his dirty blond hair tousled in his t-shirt and boxers Sandy almost looked like a concerned dad...almost. A dad was not something I would have anytime some but at least I had my brother and my mom. I was startled out of my revelation as mom's, head popped in the doorway. Her violet eyes were wide with concern and her voice was lowered to a whisper even though everybody was already awake.

"You okay baby?" With her golden ringlets and violet eyes she looked nothing like me, if I had taken after my father I would never know.

"Yea, I'm fine. Sandy was just saying we should go get a Frosty. Since we are already up." Mom smiled and shaking her head at us slowly walked down the hallway to her room. Sandy grinned at me as he spoke.

"Sooner or later I will get tired of Frosty's." Laughing , I shook my head as I threw my pillow at him.

"We'll got get Mc Flurries then. Now get out so I can get my clothes on."  He was still laughing as he shut the door so I could change.

..........

Sandy and I slowly walked down the sidewalk talking about school and anything else except the nightmares. We both came to a stop at the brick house next door to ours and looked up at the top step. He was there like clock work. He wore all black and carried a black cane in his right hand as he stared ahead with unseeing blue eyes. His long black hair was tied back in a ponytail and he whistled softly as he stood there, waiting. If I didn't know him I would probably be creeped out. Especially since he was only sixteen and he acted like an old man.  He was what some people called an old soul. Before we even said a word in greeting,  he had walked slowly down the steps, pretended to miss the last step and fell into Sandy's arms, laughing.

"God, San you fall for that every time." Sandy scowled slightly then laughed aloud as he set him on his feet.

"Gray you are a sad sight. One of these days you are going to get mugged standing outside at two a.m." Gray just smiled a lopsided smile and threw his arm across my shoulders as we started to walk down the street. We all knew that blind or not, Gray was beyond a black belt in Karate and could take care of his self. Actually I felt sorry for anyone who messed with him cause they were going to be in pain. Added to that he would hear them coming a mile away. No one sneaks up on him and believe me, I had tried, repeatedly.

Still talking we started across the street as the walk sign turned green for us to walk. Sandy was walking behind us when I heard it. The screech of tires filled my ears as I looked in front of us, overwhelmed ny the smell of burning rubber. Gray's head snapped us as he stood frozen with me by his side. I could see but I didn't know where to go. The truck was weaving back and forth making it impossible to guess which way to run and it was almost on top of us. How could we dodge something that big? I heard Sandy scream my name as I felt hands shove into the small of my back. Gray and I slammed to the ground as I turned my head back to look into Sandy's eyes.
