Take Me Back pt. 6
-Kijuju, Africa/ 2009
"Did you hear that?! It came from that building," Sheva's voice filled with fear as the sound of a scream brought your mind out of its memories and into the real.
"Someone needs our help," you cried out as you followed behind Chris up a flight of stairs, his eyes meeting yours as he nods toward the door. The two of you push the door open cautiously, guns pointed and eyes meeting a horrific scene, a scene that reminded you of Spain vividly.
"Oh God," you whispered as you watched two men holding down another. One of them sat atop the innocent man holding onto what looked to be a parasite, shoving it into his mouth.
What the hell?...
"Freeze!" Chris shouts, seemingly gaining the attention of the two men, as they stood facing you, eyes bloodshot and veins popping from their faces. The two men then turned away, moving in the opposite direction.
"Stop right there!" You yelled, but to no avail they scurried away, exiting from the back and leaving the sight of the three of you. The innocent man began puking violently as he convulsed and twitched. You moved in along with Chris, leaning down to reach for the man's shoulder.
"Are you alright?-" Chris moves back pulling you with him as the man sat on his knees reaching for his neck as though the parasite had begun moving through his body, causing his eyes to begin bleeding from their sockets.
"Chris-" you voiced.
"Hold on," he replies, "stay back,"
The man fell forward for only a moment, before rising to his feet, fingers twitching before-
-shit!
BOOM
BOOM
BOOM
The man had been dispatched, before he could attack, it was a shame to be completely honest, but what was worse was how much these infected people were so much like the ones in Spain. Though you kept your lips tightly shut on the matter due to the fact that it was very much so classified.
"What the hell just happened?" Chris turned to Sheva, eyes moving between the two of you.
"They didn't move like any zombies I've ever seen."
"I don't think those were zombies," you replied.
His eyes met yours again, before turning towards the only window in the room you stood in before using his gun to smash it, moving the rest of the glass with the butt of said gun.
"Through here, let's go," he says, before hopping through the window and onto the ground. Sheva went in next, and then it was your turn. Your eyes glazed what was just below you.
Damn that's a high jump.
"Don't worry about the height, just jump you'll be fine," Chris shouted from the ground. You nodded before taking a breath, latching onto the window frame and slowly pushed yourself through it, landing on your feet, slightly crouched to the ground.
"See? Told you-" Chris' words were cut short when up above a ridge, men began shouting incoherent sentences, some of them wielding weapons. They began moving in on your location, sparking fear into your heart causing it to thrum away.
"Chris we need to get out of here," Sheva says, adrenaline was rushing through every word she spoke, "we need to get to that house, we'll have a better chance of fighting them,"
She's right.
The three of you jogged your way towards a lonely house, it's door already wide open ready for visitors. By the time you'd made it in, Sheva slammed the door shut tight, before grabbing a wooden pole, barring the door, this made you wonder what exactly was gonna happen next.
"Come in Kirk," Chris rose his hand to his earpiece, "the locals were hostile and we had to use force, we don't have any contingency plans for this situation, do we Kirk?"
"Roger on the locals," your earpiece buzzed as Kirk began speaking, "but your orders still stand,"
"The hell? Did HQ know about this?" Your voice shimmered in the air, as you hadn't clicked the button to reply back to Kirk.
"Right, what does that mean? They must've known about this," Chris doesn't reply to you or Sheva, as his eyes cast downward for a moment, you wondered just what was going through his mind.
•••
You'd followed behind Chris into another small home, moving in slowly before reaching the window just across the room. You couldn't believe your eyes... a crowd of infected people stood just outside, clamoring to the other as a man adorning sunglasses stood atop a gallows of sort, holding a megaphone he spoke in his native language to the people below.
Just what the hell happened here?
The man who gifted you your weapons had been held down, both arms being pulled back from behind him as he screeched.
"You don't know what you're talking about, you can all go to hell!" He shouted, causing you to move forward towards the door, but soon felt a strong hand on your shoulder, halting your every move.
The informant.. no..
"We have to do something," you voiced, eyes meeting Chris, but he only shook his head, eyes saddened slightly at the thought of what was to come next. An executioner stood strong wielding a long protruding axe at the edge of it.
They're going to kill him!
Your thoughts were correct as the executioner rose his axe far behind him, before bringing it down harshly. Snapping through the neck of the informant, his head dropping against the wooden gallows separate from his body.
You grabbed your mouth with your hand, eyes shocked as to what you've witnessed just before you. A small cry leaving your lips, but muffled by your hands tightly wrapped around your mouth. It made you sick to watch as the crowd began cheering, completely sick.
"No.." you whispered as you moved your hands from your lips, leaning them against the window sill, catching the breath you'd lost at the scene that had just unfolded. Your eyes made their way back outside and onto the gallows, just to meet the dark shades of the man that ordered the informants death.
You could see the red glint behind the shades as his hand moved in your direction and suddenly the crowd's eyes turned to meet the three of you standing in the window.

Once again, I apologize for the lateness, just getting back into the groove of things.
Despite this, I hope you enjoyed. Just a refresher, flashbacks will be shorter than regular chapters.-Author
