-Tall Oaks, USA/Present Day
Once Leon stepped outside, your eyes roamed, taking notice of a man painted in blood lying against the wall beside the bars that held the Madonna. Strapped to him was a Semi-Auto Sniper Rifle.
"Hey Leon!" You shouted, head peeking around the corner of the doorway. "Think you'll need this," you held out the rifle for him. You could only watch as the corner of his lips perked up into a smirk before he moved closer to reach for it.
"Thanks," he says, turning on his heel before holding up the rifle to aim, taking the first shot at the bell high up on the tower. Rain pelts you as it seeps through your light jacket.
A second gunshot rings as you stalked back inside the cathedral meeting up with Cole and Helena.
"Glad he figured out what to do," Cole begins, "I hadn't the slightest idea," you chuckled lightly at his wholesome tone of voice.
"He always finds a way," you responded, shaking off your jacket that you'd decided for the moment was a nuisance.
Shit..
Your eyes widened when you caught sight of the veins in your right wrist. They were glowing a mild, pulsing shade of white. You immediately covered them by throwing your soaked jacket back around your shoulders. The sleeves were long enough to cover what you believed you were meant to conceal.
Why now?
The thoughts in your head ring from one side to the other. Mimicking the bells clanging in the rain. "That's all of 'em," Leon peeked back around the corner wielding his sniper rifle, interrupting your previous spiral of thoughts. "Kinda feel bad shooting antiques," Just then, the bars that held the Madonna captive, rose from the ground, freeing her. You latched onto the silver statuette reading its inscription.
Madonna of Grief
"Here," You handed off the Madonna to Leon who pulled it willingly from your fingertips.
CREAK
CRACK
"Did you hear that?" Cole inquires. You nodded in response, looking around the corner facing the stairs, searching for undesirables.
"I hope it was a door, come on," Helena speaks up, moving ahead down the short flight of stairs. You followed in tow, turning the corner to realize you were back where you started—the cathedral.
"I think we use both silver statues on those pillars over there, the same way we did with the wooden ones," Helena says, finger-pointing in the distance. You nod, moving around the balcony railings to be met with the first pillar the Madonna was meant to stand on.
"Ready?"
"Ready," Helena responds, pulling her Madonna from the pack trapped to her hips and meeting your eyes. You had also reached into the pack on your hip and pulled the Madonna from its confines before the two of you placed them down simultaneously.
Within a few seconds, the large statue across the cathedral began to rise, opening a pathway leading even farther into the cathedral than you'd initially thought was possible.
"Oh my God," Cole manages, eyes widening at the sight before him.
"Yeah... You said it," You responded as your eyes glazed the now open pathway. It seemed you weren't the only ones, as the people sitting on pews below stood to their feet in awe, but your fascination soon shriveled into pure fear. It started as loud, wet footsteps making their way up the staircase leading down and soon a creature covered in boils made its presence known as it stalked further and further up the stairs before it stood, body desperately trying to hang due to the heavy boils covering its soiled body.
