CADE
The room was silent and everybody stared at us until my mom finally stepped in front of Danica and put her hand out, “Hi Danica. I’m Cade’s mom.”
I’m pretty sure Danica wanted to kill me, but she kept a sweet smile on her face while shaking my mom’s hand. “Hello, Mrs. Mason. Your house is very beautiful. I’m sorry for intruding, I know I wasn’t invited or anything.”
“There is an open invitation, all my children know that,” she looked up at me with a smirk. “Please call me Lydia. How are you doing this morning?”
“Well, to be frank with you, Lydia, I’m really hungover.”
“Mmmhmm,” Mom hummed. “I heard you had a long night with Eden and Eve.”
“She drank us under the table, Lydia,” Eden spoke up from her spot next to Fletch, “it was actually impressive.”
Mom holds out her hand, “Why don’t you come with me and we will get you a cup of coffee?”
Danica looks back at me and I give her a nod. She puts her hand in my mom’s and she leads Danica further into the house. Once they’re away from us, Fletch comes from the side and grabs my arm, dragging me back outside.
“What the hell are you doing?” I try to pull my arm away, but Fletch grips tighter.
“We need to talk,” he growls and shoved me outside the door.
I try to shrug him off of me, but he pushes me up against his truck parked in the driveway. “Dude, Fletch get off of me!”
Fletch presses his finger against my chest, “It is one thing for her to show up at the bar last night and for you to put her with my girl when you don’t know shit about her, but then to bring her to brunch with our parents? Are you fucking drunk or just stupid?”
“Take a step back, Fletch,” I smack his hand away. “She’s a friend in need and I’m just trying to support her.”
“Do you even know anything about her or just enough to get a good fuck and send her on her way?”
I grip my hands into fists, “Shut your mouth, Fletch, you don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“I know that you’ve already had her straddling you and I know when she was in trouble she came to you. Are you fucking married women now? Is that what you’re doing now? Should probably hide my wife from you because maybe she’s next?”
My hands shove into Fletch’s chest and he stumbles back. I shoulder-check him on my way back to the front door, but as I go to grab the doorknob, Fletch’s large hands grab my shoulders and pull me back. I turn around just in time to see Fletch’s fist coming at my face. I couldn’t move out of the way. His fist connects with my jaw and I fall back against the house with a loud thud. Pissed off, I push off the house and charge at Fletch, taking him down to the ground.
“Hey! Hey! Get off of each other,” I hear Parker yelling, but I ignore him, getting my own punch in on Fletch.
“Break it up you two!” Damon’s booming voice comes out of nowhere. I feel a set of hands grab me and pull me up off the ground and then I see Parker holding back Fletcher, and Damon between us, so Adam must have me.
“Move, Damon,” Fletch spit on the ground, “this isn’t about you. Apparently, this asshole grew a pair.”
Damon grips his t-shirt and gets real close, “Shut up Fletch. Calm your ass down. Do you want your kids to see you acting like this?” Fletch’s eyes soften when he looks past my shoulder, where I’m assuming our other family members must be standing. I feel another hand slap down on my shoulder.
