DANICA
Amber looks at me from across the bedroom a shakes her head, “I swear I haven’t seen you this happy in forever. Who knew Miss Priss would be perfectly happy living in Smalltown USA?”
I turn away from the mirror and glare at her, “I was never Miss Priss!”
“Uh-huh, okay,” she dismisses my statement. “Are you going to pretend like you weren’t completely happy getting bankrolled by daddy’s money? No judgment here, Danica, I love living off my mom and dad. I loved all the vacations I got to go on, the concerts I attended, and the expensive clothes that I get. You did too.”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right, but I don’t want to call myself Miss Priss or anything. I didn’t think I was a horrible person.”
“I never said you were a horrible person. You were just rich and spoiled. Now you’re rich and sexually spoiled by Cade,” she wiggles her eyebrows at me.
“Yeah...maybe a little.” My heart flutters thinking about Cade. I’ve barely been gone and I already miss him.
“Okay finish getting dressed so we can go out!”
I go into the bathroom and change into a short leather skirt and a purple shimmery tank top. I take my hair out of my ponytail and let it fall over my shoulders. I’m not trying to impress anybody, but there is nothing better than dressing sexy and going out with a friend.
“You look hot!” Amber exclaims when I walk out of the bathroom.
Amber is wearing a hot pink romper with a halter top. She has her hair up in a high ponytail to show off her bare bake. “You look pretty great too. Maybe tonight I’ll be your wing woman.”
She playfully shrugs her shoulder, “I mean, I don’t think I need your help to get a man, but okay I guess.”
“Don’t get cocky!” I laugh and throw my arm around her for a quick hug.
We each slip on a pair of shoes and borrow a small clutch with my personal belongings, but my phone starts to ring and I see it's Cade calling. “Hold up a second, Amber, let me see what he needs.”
Amber playfully rolls her eyes, “Okay, talk to loverboy.”
I’m still laughing while I answer the call, “Hey, just getting ready to go out, what’s up handsome?”
“Dans, pumpkin, I don’t know how to tell you this, but we’ve got a huge problem. I’ve got a huge problem.” My good mood is gone in an instant. There is no playfulness in his voice, something is wrong.
“What happened, Cade?” I look over at Amber and she’s looking just as concerned as I am. I put the phone on speaker so we can both hear it. “I have Amber on speaker, Cade. What’s wrong?”
“I was working tonight and your MOM came in.”
“My mom? She’s here, she knows that I’m coming to visit tomorrow, why would she be there?”
“That’s what I asked her, but baby it gets worse. She knows that we’re married.”
“But..but..how?” I stutter.
“She said it was public record. I never thought about that. Although after a few other things she told me it wouldn’t surprise me if she had somebody look into me and us.”
“Did she say what she wanted?”
“She wanted me to sign a divorce decree.”
I feel the air rush from my lungs, it feels like somebody just punched me in the chest, “She what? You didn’t do it, did you?”
