Cassie

I've learned today that you can never really reach rock bottom. Because if you think your situation is the worst, something even shittier is coming your way; just wait for it.

You must be thinking, "But Cassie, all you ever wanted was to find your dad." Yeah, well, jokes on me, I guess.

But I understand you may need some additional context, so here goes nothing.

He was very different from the picture depicted on my folder, but I still recognized him instantly. He was there, a few meters from me. but nobody moved.

I didn't let go of Topper's hand, whose grip tightened against mine. My body was aching, and I knew from the looks on Pope, Kiara, and Wheeze's faces that they weren't waiting friendly for us. The tension in the air was impossible to deny.

"Dad" was all that I was able to say. So did John B at the same time, as he gave me a look of worry.

"My son," he said. Two words: so simple, so quick, so hurtful. He opened his arms towards my brother, who instantly took a step back, holding Sarah by the shoulders.

The blond woman next to him huffed in exasperation, and I noticed the cane in her hand, probably due to some disability.

Some men dressed in black were surrounding our friends. Something was very wrong, and I'm not talking about the fact that our missing dad found us on a deserted island.

"Why... how... what are you doing here? How are you... still alive? »

My eyes drifted from my dad to my friends, trying to assimilate the gravity of our situation.

"I promise I will explain everything to you, but not now."

"To us". His eyes drifted to me, staring at me from head to toe

"I'm Cassie, Simmons, you, and my mom... You..."

"I know." He stated, coldly and I froze, stupefied. "What do you mean, you know?"

"Your mother and I made a mistake, and I left, that's all. "You're not supposed to be here," he said, moving his hand toward me and dismissing the conversation as if I were nothing to him.

"A mistake?" was all I could answer. He really thought that little of me, my mother, and everything.

John B got closer to me, and I could feel his body and Topper's protecting me from both sides.

"Don't talk like that to my sister," he says, making his, er, our dad laugh.

"Yeah, okay," stated the blond lady, "I understand you may be dealing with some family situation, but I'm not here for that."

She came closer to us, and J.J. echoed to her, "What the fuck are you here for?" "Are you done with Cameron's psycho?"

She loomed closer, surrounded by what seemed to be her guards, holding a hand towards John B. "I'm going to require your bandana, young men."
