Sommers-Gilbert residence: Elena P.o.v
As I put down my diary, I can't help but let out a sigh. Today's the day where I start over, summer is over and a new school year is here. Everything will be better now, it has to be.
As I walk down the stairs I see Jenna rushing around the kitchen, and I immediately spot and smell the coffee and beeline towards it. "Toast. I can make toast" unable to hold the smile off my face, I don't even attempt to. "It's all about the coffee, aunt Jenna" , likely having heard our conversation, Jeremy descends the stairs. "Is there coffee?" I barely even get a chance to reply, before he's taken the cup of coffee out of my hands, making me groan as I go to grab another one.
As Jenna pulls out her purse, it gets increasingly obvious that she's stressed about today. "Your first day of school, and I'm totally unprepared. Lunch money?" I shrug her off "I'm good" while Jer takes the money she hands him. "Anything else? A number 2 pencil? What am I missing?" she lets out a frustrated sigh. "Don't you have a big presentation today?" Jenna stops her pacing, looking at me wide-eyed "I'm meeting with my thesis advisor at... Now. Crap!" deciding to go easy on her, I let her know that she's free to go. Looking towards Jer, I can't help but be a little worried. "You okay?" he just scoffs at me as he turns to leave. "Don't start.
Bonnie's car
As Bonnie pulls up to the house, I immediately jump into the passenger seat already feeling a bit of anxiety starting to build in my chest as the car takes off. As I stare out the window slightly zoning out, I can faintly hear Bonnie talking to me. "So Grams is telling me I'm psychic. Our ancestors were from Salem, witches and all that, I know, crazy, but she's going on and on about it, and I'm like, put this woman in a home already! But then I started thinking, I predicted Obama and I predicted Heath Ledger, and I still think Florida will break off and turn into little resort islands...Elena! Back in the car" As I snap back to attention, Bonnie is looking at me expectantly
"I did it again, didn't I? I--I'm sorry, Bonnie. You were telling me that..." Bonnie sighs at me, clearly a bit annoyed "That I'm psychic now" Ahh, we're back to the whole witch thing again. "Right. Okay, then predict something. About me" She looks at me for a brief moment, as if contemplating whether I'm serious or not "I see..." before she has a chance to finish her sentence, a black blur passes by while hitting the windshield in the process. Bonnie swerves in shock, as the car comes to a sudden stop throwing me forwards in the seat belt.
Bonnie turns towards me in concern "What was that?! Oh, my god! Elena, are you okay?" I let out a breath I didn't realise I was holding, before briefly shaking my head "It's okay, I'm fine" Bonnie takes a moment to get her own breathing under control "It was like a bird or something. It came out of nowhere" Getting slightly agitated from the constant concern, reply in an almost whisper "Really, I can't be freaked out by cars for the rest of my life" Bonnie gives me a small smile, clearly picking up on my feelings. "I predict this year is going to be kick ass. And I predict all the sad and dark times are over, and you are going to be beyond happy. I also sense a gentle heat on the horizon, but I can't really explain that part"
Mystic Falls High School
As Bonnie and I stop at our lockers, we both take a look around at the other students, although Bonnie seems disappointed at what they see. "Major lack of male real estate. Look at the shower curtain on Kelly Beech. She looks like a hot - can I still say "tranny mess"? As I start to reply to her question, we're both interrupted by a sultry feminine voice with a British accent coming from behind me. "I'd think that was never okay in the first place luv. It's a rather insensitive thing to say, no?" We both turn around to face the other girl, and looking at her I feel like I've been punched in the gut.
