If anything is bolded during this chapter its sign language! (Other than "Thump" ofc).
I continue to pull on the rope around my wrists but the pain only gets worse. I look back at the Island, while some ocean Na'vi were still crying, others were diving into the water. One of them I recognized was Aonung. I wanted to tell them to not come after me since they didn't know what they were up against, but it was no use.
I look up hoping to see my family on their Ikrans but there's no sign of them anywhere. I feel a sense of worry kick in.
Thump
I hear a sound come from the back of the ship, and soon a group of ocean Na'vi scatter around looking for me. But they soon get attacked by human Na'vi who were watching over me. Bullets and bows get shot from every direction. Na'vi from both sides getting hit. I try ducking down to avoid getting hit when someone grabs my wrist.
"We're getting out of here!" Aonung reassures.
He uses a sharp tool and begins to saw at the rope, it snaps. I was released from the ship. Aonung grabbed my hand, I didn't have time to hold a grudge so I squeeze onto his. We start heading back to the same way he got on, but a large net gets thrown at us. The both of us fall to the ground, hitting the hard metal. Our bodies pressed up against each other, making it harder to free ourselves. We continue to squirm around in attempt to escape but Aonungs wet body only makes things worse.
"How the hell do we get out of this?" Aonung complains.
"Stop moving!" I demand, pushing him away from me by his chest.
"Whats this stuff made out of?" Aonung grunts.
"Hand me your knife" I ignore.
"You don't think I tried that?" He replies.
I roll my eyes, fear picking up the longer i'm stuck. I wondered where Mom was and if she was safe. Almost as if she read my mind, I see Mom appear next to Aonung and I with a large sharp weapon. She crouches down quickly and slices the net open with ease.
"What the-" Aonung says in confusion.
"Let's go kids!" Mom yells.
We nod and follow her, dodging dead bodies as we make our way to the other side of the ship. Were I assumed her Ilu was. And for the second time today I was running for my life, literally.
"Where's Quaritch?" I ask.
"Shh" Mom shushes, gesturing for Aonung and I to slow down behind her. We begin tiptoeing down a wall, when we reach the edge I peek over to see Quaritch and a few of his allies heading our direction.
"We must dive, NOW!" Mom commands.
We run to the left and dive into the water. The sound of Quaritch yelling gets drowned out. All three of us swim deeper into the water until finding a few Gil Mantles, after attaching them to our backs I inhale deeply. It was dark out, but the neon colors of bioluminescents brightened up the ocean.
Where is Dad? I sign.
He told me to meet him at the Eywa tree, we must head their now. Mom responds.
I will come. Aonung decides.
We all call for our Ilus and head off to the underwater tree. I feel a strong feeling of relief when finally escaping. Until remembering all the damage that's been done. I shake it off knowing I need a clear mind to properly ride.
We all turn around when seeing an abnormal light shining in our direction, Submarines.
I immediately turn sharply to the right following Mom. We swim up and down but no matter what the underwater boats still managed too keep an eye on us.
Hop off and dive down. Aonung advises.
Mom and I listen, our Ilus continue to swim away but we head deeper. Hiding in thick pieces of seaweed. All of the submarines zoom past us, all except for one. It slows down heading deeper to where we were hiding. Aonung grabs me by the waist and pulls me close to him forcefully. Chest to chest.
What are you doing? I ask trying to push away from him.
He doesn't let me go, only holding me tighter. He was grabbing onto a seaweed, holding us both up, I look at him in confusion. Only do I realize whats happening when the submarine slows past us. My cheeks heat up in embarrassment knowing that I'd be caught if he hadn't grabbed me. He lets go.
Thanks.. I smile awkwardly. Aonung nods.
Come, now. Mom demands.
I swim up and click my tongue. Ari appears and I grab on, connecting our ques and continuing my way to the Eywa Tree. After a few more minutes of dodging corals and submarines we arrive at our destination. Slowly emerging to the surface and separating from the Gil Mantles.
"C'mon Y/N, we must leave now" Mom says.
I look at Aonung, not knowing how to feel after the news Rotxo told me. But still feeling upset about leaving so suddenly.
Only when I look around for the rest of my family I realize,
Dad and my siblings weren't here like they told mom...
My stomach drops as I hear screaming in the distance.
