Just Maybe Pt.4

The next 24 hours was extremely long and painful. The twins were transferred into NICU. Hoseok was only able to get a glimpse of his little angels. Y/N is still in a coma with no signs of improvement. Hoseok takes all the blame. The fury of Jungkook is valid. His younger brother took responsibility of the mess he created. The younger didn't bother to talk to him after that. No one can convince Jungkook to go home and change. He never left Y/N's room. He would also keep mum of what Y/N had told him or anything about the last 6 months at all. He was giving him the cold shoulder. He never imagined that his relationship with one of his brothers will come to this.

Yoongi stayed which Hoseok is thankful for. The rest of the guys went home to freshen up and get fresh clothes for them especially Jungkook who is still covered with blood.

Hoseok could only watch his former lover from afar. He didn't dare to come near her while Jungkook is there. He can't blame his brother. He knew how he adored Y/N as his own sister. He has a lot of questions but he has to keep it to himself for now. It is not the right time.

The next day, the doctors have announced that the twins are in stable condition but still need to stay in the NICU for monitoring. They are born prematurely so they have to stay there longer. Hoseok is relieved to hear the news just as everyone else. Y/N on the other hand is still the same, there is nothing else to do but wait. She is now transferred to a private room as per Jungkook's instruction. Their maknae is basically taking care of everything. No one dared to question him. Everyone knows it is the right thing to do. Hoseok had to keep a safe distance and not interfere. Jungkook was the one who took her in when they broke up.

Hoseok knew for himself that he is basically the reason why she's lying on that bed fighting for her life right now. He couldn't bring back time. There is no point in dwelling in the past but he couldn't shake the thought that the three of them would've been healthy if he didn't have a change of heart. He robbed her of having a great support and being showered with love and care during such a delicate time in her life. Pregnancy is not easy. He saw how his sister have struggled throughout her pregnancy with his nephew. The only silver lining is that she has family to look out for her. They have doting parents and especially a very attentive husband as well.

He thought of all the times he showed up in his sister's home with all of her food cravings in hand. How funny he wasn't able to do that for the mother of his own children. He hates himself for it. Why did he chose Mathilde over Y/N? He couldn't even fathom the reason why. Did he really fell out of love? He couldn't find it in himself when and why he even had a change of heart. Perhaps he became too comfortable with their relationship and started to look for some adventure. The thing is, he looked for it somewhere else.

1 year ago (flashback)

"Hobi! I made some of your favorite croffles.. come and eat" Y/N is in high spirits since she made the perfect breakfast for her boyfriend. She woke up really early so that it is ready before Hoseok heads out to his office.

"Ah jagi, I have a very early conference today. I need to go but thank you." Hoseok answered and went straight to the door.

Y/N is left dumbfounded. She noticed that he had been distant lately and tried her best to do sweet things for him. She doesn't want to pry and was waiting for him to tell her if there is something that is bothering him. They have always been that way. They respect each other's feelings and would only talk about it when the other is ready. She understands that her boyfriend is very busy running his company.

Few days have passed and Hoseok had been going to the office earlier than usual and goes home late. Y/N felt like something is wrong but couldn't do something about it. She never once went to his office. They lived in different worlds. Hoseok belongs to the elite while she on the other hand grew up in a humble neighborhood. Her grandmother raised her. Her mother died of suicide not being able to bear the pain of losing the man she loved. Her father didn't pass, he left her to marry the woman his family favored. It is said that his father also belonged to a family with old money. According to her grandma, her mother came home one day devastated and wouldn't talk about it. She took her own life a month after giving birth. Her only reminder of her mother is the letter she left for her telling her how sorry she was and that she loved her.

"My love, mama is sorry for being so weak. I may have gave up on this life but know that I love you and always will. It is not your fault. Please grow up strong and please love fearlessly. If you find the one, please do not back down like I did."

A few weeks later..

Today is their third year anniversarry. Y/N had prepared some steak and Hoseok's favorite red wine for dinner. She dressed up and is eagerly waiting for his arrival. She made sure that the house is spotless. She even prepared some scented candles around the house so it smelled divine. She couldn't wait to see his reaction when he enters the house and find what she had prepared especially for him. He has been very thoughtful throughout their relationship surprising her with little notes and flowers from time to time. She knew he might be stressed in his office so she wants to make an effort to give him comfort and show him how much she loves him.

She waited for hours but there was no sign of her lover. She tried to ring him but it went straight to his voicemail. She really did try her best to wait for him however her eyes are giving up on her and she decided to go to bed just an hour before sunrise.

She woke up around noon and still no sign of Hoseok. She is starting to get worried. She tried to call him again however it still went to his voicemail. She didn't know anyone at the office so she couldn't just contact his office out of nowhere to ask for him. Though they have been together for 3 years, Hoseok is very famous in the business world and they have both decided to keep their relationship a secret. It was in order to protect her from the media since she came from a very humble background. She was so excited for today however she waited for nothing.

All her excitement is now replaced with worries. She is contemplating to go to the office and check for herself. She had been pacing back and forth in the living when she heard the front door opened. She ran to the front door and heaved a sigh of relief when she saw Hoseok. She hurriedly hugged him trying to suppress her tears.

''I'm so glad you're finally home. I was so worried about you.''

''What's wrong with you?''

''I have been calling you since last night but it went straight to your voicemail. I couldn't reach you this morning as well so I got so worried.'' She exclaimed. She cupping his face lovingly but she got no reaction except for the annoyed look on his face.

''I have told you multiple times already that I have a big contract that I am working on so I am very busy.''

''I know. It's just that yesterday was--''

'' You know what? I am very tired so I will get some sleep. We'll talk later.'' He cut her off and went straight to their shared room and slammed the door.

She was left dumbfounded at the front door.

''So you did forget-'' she was whispering to herself. She knew something has changed a few weeks ago. She just refused to acknowledge it. She went to the guest room and opened the drawer on the bedside table.
She took the card that she meticulously made for the occasion a few days ago. Inside the card where it says-

''I can't wait to meet you Papa!''

Hello!

It's been a long time. My laptop is no longer working so I couldn't write haha... I just bought a bluetooth keyboard instead and connected it in my phone.

If you noticed I have written Y/N's POV in first person and then the others in 3rd person, sorry for the confusion. I will write the next chapters in 3rd person from now on.

I would like to apologize in advance as there will be a lot of grammatical errors as English is not my first language. I like writing but I am not a professional so treat this as my practice piece hoping to improve my writing skills in the future.
