The dawn came sooner than I thought it would. It had been a while since I had a peaceful, no-dreams sleep. I sat up straight and stretched my limbs, half expecting my back to be sore because of sleeping on the floor, but I found myself on the bed. Knowing who must be behind this shift, I shook my head.

When I heard a knock, I straightened my back and cleared my throat, "Come in, please." The door opened, and I saw Vi strolling in full glory, "Good morning, beta." He smiled.

"Good morning Vi!" I beamed up at him.

He came near me and stroked my messy hair, scrunching his nose when he couldn't tame them. Slowly he spoke, "It's good that you're up. Lilah was calling you for breakfast you have.—." he paused to check his watch. "—around 20 mins to freshen up and get down. Also, I suggest we have some tea this afternoon if you're free. We have a few things to discuss, including..."

Ah, not again! I knew it; nothing seemed to escape his eyes. I had to stop him somehow, so I interrupted him, "Oh! look at the time!" I got up on my bed, causing Vi to narrow his eyes at me,

"Should I remind you, you're twenty-six?" I stuck a tongue out at him and jumped from the bed.

Vi braced himself to stable me, and he did exactly that. "Careful, Aysel", saying he steadied me.

I rushed towards the bathroom. Pausing midway, I looked back and enounced, "excluding the young gentleman from yesterday. You can put down your weapons, Vi. He didn't hurt me, and you know that hurting people is my job."

Giving him a crooked smile, I turned once again to make a run, "5 o'clock, the swings", I heard him say. I gave him a thumbs-up and shut the bathroom door.

Entering the dining room, I saw Nannu reading the newspaper. She was wearing reading glasses, meaning 'she was angry'. Before I could wish her good morning, "You're late." She reprimanded me, looking up from the newspaper.

Glancing at the wall clock behind her, I realise I am 2 minutes early.

I looked at Vi, who was sitting beside her for backup, and he instantly blinked at me, "Lilah, cut her some slack, and blame me for tardiness. I told her she had half an hour, little one join us for breakfast." he nodded towards the chair in front of me, eyeing Nannu.

'Oh, okay! Aye-aye, captain!'

"Nannu, I am sorry na... May I join you?" I asked, giving her the best puppy-eyed smile.

She folded the newspaper and huffed. Putting her glasses aside, "DramaQueen and you, old man, I can at least expect you not to support her; she has responsibilities to full fill."

I quietly took my seat, and the maid served me, thanking her. I started eating. Halfway through the breakfast, she asked me, "When are you going to join the company?"

"Not anytime soon.", I vaguely answered.

The little devil popped up, sitting on my shoulder. 'What did I miss here?'

'You're not needed here right now.' I answered.

"So, what are your plans? What will you do about your financial stability after I die?"

"Lilah–!"

"Nannu–!"

We both spoke at the same time. Talking about death was considered taboo unless it was under unavoidable circumstances.

"Don't say things like that! You're not leaving me!" I mumbled, tears gathering in my eyes.

"Answer my question. Do you even have anything planned?" She repeated.
