Fortunately for Billie, Delilah stopped calling. Unfortunately, Vanessa started to. She also left multiple text messages panicking about why she didn't come get her. She ignored them. Just as Gabby commanded, she cut ties with Vanessa.
It's funny, when you have no one to love, life just gets so dull.
Billie has nothing to look forward to after work, and nothing to do with her free time. She had friends from high school, but all they ever did was make reckless decision. Billie grew out of that a long time ago, unlike all of them.
Weekdays were less busy at work, and if she were still dating Delilah they would be sitting behind the counter and play stupid hand games. That was perhaps, her fondest memory with Delilah.
But since they aren't together, and Delilah and her no longer share shifts, she had to sit on her phone looking through pictures of Vanessa.
When she heard the door open, she almost let out a groan. She wasn't in the mood to smile at a customer. In fact, all she could manage in this state was a bitter scowl.
So as to not lose her job, Billie fixed her face and put her phone down, managing to stretch her lips to a smile, that quickly dropped when she saw the in front of the counter.
Vanessa stood before her, wearing a white boobtube and blue denim shorts. Her green eyes sparkled with amusement, a mischievous smile playing on her glossy lips.
"Aren't you going to ask for my order?" she inquires innocently.
Billie recovers from her shock. "What the fuck are you doing here?"
"Uhm.. I'm hungry?"
"No, you're supposed to be in school, Nessa. Why are you here?"
"Isn't it obvious? I didn't go. Now, are you gonna serve me or do i have to call the manager?" she looked around. "Larry! One of your employees has bad customer service."
"Do your parents know you're here?" Billie ignores her.
"If they did, I wouldn't be here."
Billie jumps over the counter, pulling Vanessa by her wrist towards the door. The younger girl breaks free from her grasp.
"I haven't ordered anything."
Billie fumed. "Vanessa, this isn't funny. You can't just skip school."
"I can. In fact, I just did."
Billie grabs onto her hand, but again, Vanessa fights her off and frees herself from her clutches.
"You want me to drag you out of here?" Billie asks threateningly.
"God, why are you so pressed?" she walks passed her towards the door. "Seriously, you must have anger issues or something."
Billie exhaled deeply, following Vanessa out towards the parking lot. She tried to ignore the sight of Vanessa's hips swaying seductively as she walked.
How in God's name did she manage to walk out of the house dressed like that?
Vanessa stopped at Billie's dodge, leaning against the door.
"Do you know what I think about you, Billie?" she asks. "I think you're a really, really good liar. I think, you're a dirty little pig that fucks innocent girls and then just disappears."
Billie ignored her aching heart. "Get in the car." she commands.
The sooner she gets her to school, the sooner this confrontation could end.
"I'm just making small talk."
"In the car, Vanessa." she says more sternly.
"Fuck off, Billie. I don't want to."
Billie clashed her teeth together. "Don't talk to me like that."
"Then don't tell me what to do. I don't take orders from you. You're nothing to me."
The words felt like a dagger through her heart. But Billie stood her ground, moving Vanessa aside to open the door of the car, gesturing towards the passenger seat.
"Get in."
"No."
"Now, Vanessa."
It didn't matter how angry she pretended to get, or how loudly she would begin to yell. Vanessa had no intentions of listening to her.
"Is it because I'm not experienced? Is that why you'd prefer to fuck Delilah?"
Billie let out a sigh. It's clear Vanessa wanted answers. She deserved that much, isn't it?
If Gabby cared at all for her daughter, she would allow Billie to come up with something to tell Vanessa regarding why she just left her.
"I'll tell you everything you want to know. Just please get in the car."
That seemed to convince her quite quickly. With little thought, she got into the car, although her arms were crossed stubbornly.
Billie let out a relieved sigh. She would worry about getting fired for just leaving later.
"You promised you wouldn't leave me." Vanessa spoke the moment Billie got into the car.
"I'm sorry."
She rolls her eyes. "Oh, that's great. You're sorry. I should get it tattooed because it just means so much to me that you're sorry."
"Are you going to let me explain?"
"Please."
Billie hesitates. She couldn't tell her the truth. Vanessa would tell Gabby she knows, and Gabby will tell Chris about them, and Chris...is going to shove a literal knife through Billie's chest.
"Vanessa, you're great and all-"
"I don't want a breakup monologue, Billie. If you want to tell me you hate me, just go right ahead. Ignoring my calls was already a big giant 'fuck off' gesture."
"I don't hate you."
"But you don't love me. That's where this is going, right? You don't feel the same way? It was just sex?"
That's where the lie was headed. But the lie tainted Vanessa's image of her.
Maybe that was required so that Vanessa would leave her alone and move on. But Billie wasn't going to make that sacrifice for Gabby. She kept her promise, she didn't go looking for Vanessa.
But nothing in that promise claimed that if Vanessa were to come looking for her, that she should lie to her.
"Your mom found out we had sex." Billie blurted.
Vanessa's reaction was a look of horror. "What?"
"She told me to stay away from you. And she said that if I didn't, she would tell your dad."
From shocked, her expression turned angry. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because you'd go home and confront her about it."
"Of course I would, why would she do that?!"
Billie puts her hands on both Vanessa's cheeks. "Don't tell her about this, okay? Don't even mention me."
"But she-"
"Promise me. Please baby."
Vanessa immediately softened at the pet name, nodding her head. "Okay."
Billie sighed in relief. She looks down at Vanessa's body, observing her outfit. "I don't like you dressing like that."
"Don't tell me how to dress, Billie. You're not my body's keeper."
Billie smiled seductively, leaning closer to Vanessa. "Oh, I'm not?"
Vanessa caught on to her tone of voice, smiling playfully as she shakes her head. "No."
With a hand on her chin, Billie pulls her in for a kiss, sighing in content at the taste she missed so dearly.
A/n: there I fixed it. I did it because I love you guys (it totally has nothing to do with the fact that the entire plot of this book is preplanned)
